The Responsibility Behind the Wheel
Drivers
education is one of the most important education programs that
America offers for the youth because driving is a functional part of
almost every Americans life. There are thousands of driving related
deaths in the United States every year, imagine what that number
would be without drivers ed classes. Drivers ed is an
important passage that you must go through to earn the privilege of
driving. Drivers ed instructor do their best to teach their
students the responsibly of being behind the wheel.
When you get
behind the wheel it’s easy to forget what you’re taking into your
hands. To help prevent deaths related to driving I believe it would
be a good idea to post of the steering wheel a sign reminding the
driver o their responsibility. It could read You’re about to
drive this vehicle and take your life, your passengers’ lives, and
other drivers on the road lives into your hand. Understand what may
happen if you are intoxicated or drive distracted. Make smart
decisions. I know if I were to see this sign on my steering wheel
every time, I got into my car it would be a healthy reminder of how
serious driving should be taken.
Yes, I have been
in a car accident my grandfather was driving on the highway with my
mother in the front seat and myself in the back. It was winter and
there was lots of slush on the road making it a risky trip home. My
Grandfather was about 87 during the time but a very capable and
healthy 87, he got a little spooked because a semi was accelerating
at the same speed as us, and it is a little nerve racking to have a
big truck like that trapping you in. So, he sped up, hit a patch of
melted snow and we hydroplaned into the other lane and collided with
another car before slamming into a snow bank. I think about that
often especially when I am driving in those conditions.
My best friends’
older sister was killed in a car accident when she was 16 years old.
This event crushed her family as it would any. From that day forward
I think about Sloane every time I get in a car, it’s a reality
check for me to know the possibilities and to see how it affects a
family first hand.
I can be a
better driver through realizing that going three miles over the speed
limit really isn’t going to get me to my destination any faster,
and to let my friends know that I would rather go slow and miss
curfew than try and speed and make it on time. Along with this I
think I can inform others on the responsibilities and reproductions
you may face as a driver. Driving is a very serious responsibilities
often taken for granite, it’s important to realize the power you
have while behind the wheel.
