Driving Safer
It is highly important to be a cautious and safe driver on the roads and highways at any time, today and even back in the 1980’s.
When I was a child growing up, my parents would always stress to my siblings and I the importance and factors of being a safe driver. When it was our turn to sit in the driver seat, they would say that it doesn’t matter if you are at fault, what matters is that when you are involved in an automobile accident, either you hit someone or someone else hits you, due to careless driving from a different or an unknown driver and/or a possibility of a prior accident which may have led to the accident that your involved in. Safety is a priority in our household at all times.
The number one step that drivers can take in order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is better choices and judgment prior as well as while driving. There are other steps to address as well. If everyone on planet earth would honestly and cautiously abide by this, we would make it a much safer world for everyone, regardless of where we live and for all ages.
Also, I can see that it’s highly important to teens to impress their peers including when it comes to driving skills. Everyone should attend driving school, regardless of who you are and where you are from. The teens who do not attend driving school, just may be the more problematic drivers on the road ways since they are the drivers with less experience and guidance.
Another factor is the driving age. In the State of Florida, the required age is 15 for a learner’s license which includes parental consent. One problem that I see in today’s society is that parents will sign anything to spoil their child. The State of Florida requirement for obtaining a drivers license is the age of 16, which in my opinion, is entirely too young since this is the age when peer pressure begins – high school age. Clearly, the State of Florida was not thinking this through very well when they implemented and enforced this policy. In my opinion, the driving age should be increased to 22. By increasing the driver’s license age in the State of Florida, hopefully this is the more mature age verses such a young age of 16.
If only there was a way to ensure and confirm by the driver’s state government that everyone in every vehicle buckles their seat belt prior to the start of their engine.
Also, never have anyone get in the driver seat when they are impaired by alcohol or drugs, no matter how desperate they are to arrive to their destination. My husband and I are the designated driver for everyone we know. All our friends need to do is call us, no matter what time of night it is.
Unfortunately, I have had negative experiences as far as being in a car accident over the timeframe I have been a driver. It is definitely not a good one and you will seek medical attention at some point after the car accident has occurred that you are involved in. The cost of medical bills for the uninsured is astronomical. To top it off, I have had friends pass away over the years due to careless fatal car accidents.
There are a few steps drivers can take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road is to a) spend less time driving on the roads, b) have better choices/judgment c) less horsepower in sports vehicles and d) install speed indicators on vehicles. It is not necessary to have a significant amount of horsepower in a vehicle to get the driver or other riders to their destination in a matter of seconds versus minutes. It is inexcusable for a driver to be driving fast, weaving in and out of lanes/traffic just to arrive at their destination within minutes after leaving their house!
Another step the government can take is installing speed indicators on vehicles. That way, the government can track the speed of drivers and distinguish who are the honest people and who are the dishonest and dramatic drivers who drive on their ego. These are the people who don’t deserve their driver’s license.
Hopefully, these increased and stricter road safety suggestions just may assist the public, at any age, in saving more lives not only annually, but also worldwide. I know for a fact, I definitely do not want to be blamed or responsible for someone else’s life involving a fatal car accident, do you?
