The Steps To Transform Mistakes into Strong Driver Behavior
Car accidents cause more deaths and have alarmed America. Most of those car accidents are fatal, which increases the concern of being one of the highest percentages of death across the country. A way to defeat this percentage and increase the number of people’s lives is by educating drivers. The importance of educating drivers is to reduce the number of deaths, especially young drivers who have recently taken their Driver’s Licenses, they are easier to reverse some dangerous driver behaviors than those who have achieved a mature age. Young people are also seen as the most concerned drivers to consider due to their behavior when driving, resulting in car accidents because the driver is under certain influences, such as alcohol and drugs.
One step that can be taken as a way to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to wear a seat belt no matter the circumstances. Some people might think that wearing a seat belt is not a big deal, but it can save lives. Wearing a seat belt and making sure that others in the car are also doing the same is a good way to prevent serious risks and death from car crashes. Another step that drivers can take is getting driving supervision. If a driver is not confident enough to drive alone, asking for help can be a powerful change in the death scenario and increase their confidence. When drivers are supervised, they tend to drive more cautiously. It is important to have an experienced driver to teach you how to drive and to supervise learning drivers. Another important step that drivers should consider is not driving under the influence of any intoxicating substance, besides being an illegal practice, it can take the driver’s life and someone else in the car or outside of it, such as a second, or a third car when involving others in the accident.
I had an experience of a car accident in which, fortunately, no one died. The driver that caused the accident was driving a huge truck, and because he was under the influence of alcohol, he didn’t apply the breakers on time when all the other cars in front of him stopped for the red light. The car accident ended up involving eight other cars, and my dad’s car got squeezed like the other cars in front of us. We were 5 in the car – not counting the other people involved in the accidents who were driving their own car -, my dad, my sister, my mom, and my brother, that was in my mom’s belly. My mom had only a few weeks to give birth. We were lucky to come off that car accident with only a few injuries and no birth complications for my mom and my brother, who was born a few days later, but I know that other families might not have the same luck that my family and I had at that time. We were victims of a driver who was under the influence of alcohol, and that accident could’ve ended in a tragedy.
As a driver, I can take many steps to help me to be a better and safer driver. There is always something to improve, such as not touching my phone while I am driving. Technology can also influence our attention in traffic, resulting in accidents and deaths. When we drive and talk on the phone, we are exposed to many risks and others, too. How many times do we pick up the phone during traffic just because “I need to answer that call”? Or get entertained with a video and forget that we are driving and that we must be paying attention to our surroundings and being more cautious? In traffic, everything changes, and if we are not paying attention and being cautious because we are on our phones, this can cause an irreversible tragedy in our lives. Wracking a car is no burden when we talk about deaths and families that are ruined because of a smaller mistake that could’ve been avoided. As a strong driver, I put my phone on silent mode if I don’t have any important call to take or leave it on the speaker connected to the car. There are safety modes that we can adhere during our driving routes, and picking up the phone is not one of those. Instead, drivers must avoid being on their phones while driving, if it is an important call and you can’t wait until you get to your final destination, find the next exit and safely park your car. We drive not only for ourselves but for others. When driving, being present and cautious can transform mistakes into strong driver behavior.
