The Importance of Driving
Driving is a freedom and a luxury for most teens and adults, and most of the time, people can’t wait to get behind the wheel of their favorite vehicle. Many just want the freedom to go with friends and to go on vacation, or to even help them obtain a job. Today there are so many dangers that teen drivers and adult drivers face when it comes to driving, and without drivers education, and proper training, many of these drivers could have a very upsetting ending.
With drivers’ education I have personally experienced it and would highly recommend partaking in this. The importance of drivers’ education is that it provides a safe environment for new drivers to practice good driving habits, and to get out those nerves of being a new driver. By having a trained instructor, it makes most drives go smoothly. Throughout driver’s education it provides stages, and online courses, which give helpful tips to become a safe driver. By completing this course, it reduces the number of deaths in driving mainly since drivers’ education makes defensive drivers, that are smart, are aware of their surrounds, traffic laws, and know to focus on the road, and other drivers when getting behind the wheel. There are many steps after drivers’ education that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving.
First off drivers’ education is really the first step in reducing the number of deaths per year involving car crashes. This is a good step to take, especially if driving doesn’t come naturally. Also, with the resources that drivers’ education provides, it will allow drivers to understand the consequences of poor driving behavior. Other steps include staying off devices, staying focused on the road and other drivers’ actions, driving the speed limit, following traffic laws, and most importantly buckling up. With all these steps it can be hard to manage them, especially if you are going on a quick drive down the street but remember most crashes occur less than a mile away from where you live. Try to keep in mind that life is short, and no one knows what will happen in the future. This leads to my next point of personal experience.
Personally, I have not been involved in a crash, but I have seen so risky driving habits that had me a bit nervous. I have an uncle and a grandpa that I drive with, both are good defensive drivers, but both either drive too fast, or try to fumble with the technology within their vehicle. My uncle especially tends to partake in multiple activities while driving, such as smoking or eating while driving, which can be very risky. Encouraging and helping them with tips is going to be my next step, because most of the time people don’t even realize their doing something wrong, which is dangerous.
I feel that my driving is good compared to the average driver, but I still have bad habits that need to be broken, such as driving a little to fast, and not wearing my seat belt on short trips to the store. Referring to the scenarios earlier, by being a passenger I can be another set of eyes for the driver, which can help them to see other drivers, or objects that might lead to a crash. As a passenger I can help work with the technology and devices in the vehicle so the driver can focus on driving. These are some of the steps that I can take to help others while driving. Steps that I can take to better my driving habits are to write a note that I leave in the vehicle, and to remind myself that cops are out and to be cautious about driving fast. Most of the time I try and ask for advice from my family about helpful driving tips, and what to do in certain situations, which allows me to better understand driving, and not to be as nervous when I’m behind the wheel. Reminding myself that I have not only my own life but possibly others live in my hands when I am in control of the vehicle. That is mind blowing thought to think about, but it is true, and for me I don’t want to be responsible for hurting or taking someone’s life because of a careless mistake that could probably have been avoided. In the end driving is exciting, and opens tons of opportunities, but can come with great consequences if taken for granted. Just remember to take it slowly, look out for other drivers, and do what’s right, and most of the time, you will successfully cruise down the road, and never have problems.
