Importance
of Drivers ed

Driver
Education is one of the most important classes you will ever take
while in Delaware Public School. Unlike math, English, or science
where you take tests memorizing useless information. Driving is an
important skill that is required if you want to travel anywhere in
the United States of America. Thus, with its vast importance Driver
Education is also vital in teaching this important skill along with
keeping you safe on the road. In the State of Delaware Driver
Education is a required class that all students take during their
sophomore year of high school. During this period your driver
educator teaches you the rules of the road while being always
watchful of the road ahead. Proper education like the kind seen in
Delaware is vital in keeping our students safe as they start and
continue driving for a lifetime. The education makes sure that young
new drivers are able to learn how to drive by someone who is more
qualified than a parent or guardian. This means that on average the
vast majority of Delawareans will get someone more qualified than
their parents.

Reducing
Traffic Fatalities

However,
even with all of these standards put in place, Delaware Drivers are
still ill-prepared for the road. Most likely due to the reason that
not all Driver Ed teachers are made equal, it’s just a simple reality
that some are going to be better than others. This is not the only
threat facing drivers though. Technology is making it easier and
easier for people to be distracted behind the wheel. The main cause
of this use is repeated use where nothing goes wrong. The thought
goes something like this “I texted before and nothing bad happened
then.” What many fail to realize is that it only takes one bad
incident to ruin your life once and forever. Either leading to your
death or someone else’s Children of my generation have no idea what
death is and don’t fear it as they should. They like to think that
they are invincible when in reality they are anything but.

Experience

2006
another day on Maryland’s eastern shore I was on my way to Preschool
when “BAM.” I feel nothing and remember even less after that
ear-shattering and spine breaking noise. All I remember is waking up
in my car seat my head against the airbag. I remember screaming when
I saw all the broken glass and that I was trapped in my car seat with
my family nowhere to be seen. I tried to open my door but it was
smashed against a brick building. A minute later I was cut free and
in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. All within minutes my day
was going in an extremely different direction. What caused all this
pain and suffering at such a young age. A lady putting on make-up
didn’t see the red light. All because of her simple distraction I
was put into the hospital. This only shows why it’s so important
that while behind the wheel you should only be worried about Driving
not texting, make-up, or anything else. It is vital that you don’t
just keep yourself safe but everyone else on that road.

Improving
Driving Conditions

To
be better drivers we need to have patience and give ourselves enough
time to get where we need to go.  Driving carefully and driving
the speed limit is the safest way to keep yourself safe behind the
wheel. The most important trait of someone behind the wheel would be
patience. A vast majority of accidents could most likely be avoided
if we just took more time waiting at a stop sign or took the time to
completely stop. When behind the wheel we need to spend, less time
being impatience being distracted on our phones and spend more time
actually watching the road. This will be the most efficient way of
actually improving driving conditions in not only Delaware but in
America as a whole.
