Saving Lives will always be a priority

Imagine driving down the street and you hear a crash. You immediately think it is your car because the sound was deafening. It was so intense but thank goodness it was only a fender bender and did not involve your car. The other patrons of the accident were okay just a little shaken up. The police were already on their way. I could hear the sirens in the distance. According to google 15,000 to 16,000 accidents occur every day. Now imagine if these numbers can be reduced to half or even decreased by a couple of thousand accidents. It can be possible. Anything is possible.

Driver education is important in reducing the number of deaths. Being aware of your surroundings and being present can be a major contributor to decreasing the number of deaths on the road. Texting while driving is now against the law because of the vast amounts of deaths that have been reported because of it. Understandably, sometimes accidents are inevitable, but some accidents can be prevented.

A couple of steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths when it comes to driving. A safe driving course could be a step to reduce the number of deaths when it comes to driving. A safe driving course can also give you a discount on your car insurance. Also driving defensively can reduce the number of accidents on the road. Staying patient and being courteous to others while driving could definitely prevent a lot more accidents. There is also predicting or imagining what the car next to you might do. Sometimes they want to switch lanes or jump in front of you and that is also an example of defensive driving. A safe driver will know when to slow down and let people go away and not tail others. Road rage is very dangerous. There are innocent people getting hurt because of another person’s impatience. Sometimes when cars tail me or act dangerous on the road, I let them go. Letting an impatient driver leave can become the deciding factor between life or death. They can hit your car or worse, sometimes it is best to let them go on their way. It is very serious and should not be played with. I believe that road rage incidents have increased lately partly because of Post Covid and some citizens anxiety levels are at an all-time high.

I have had the experience of being involved in a car accident that was no fault of my own. I was a passenger in the car and my best friend was driving. A car hit us from the back and the driver that hit us said “I didn’t even hit you that hard.” We ended up in physical therapy and it was a terrible experience. Even though it was his fault, the other driver had no remorse for us.

The steps I have taken to become a safer driver is to always wear my seat belt. Statistically wearing your seat belt can reduce death by 45% and injury by 50%. I encourage others to wear theirs as well, that I ride with or that I drive. I do not text and drive. I feel that is irresponsible behavior. I plan my trips before I go on them so I know where I am going and my estimated arrival as well as how long it will take to get there. I have a handheld free device in my car. I use my device every day and I love it because it is convenient and easy to use for my phone. Car-play also reduces distracted driving because you can get directions and play music as well as send and receive messages. These are all ways we can become better drivers. We have to learn to educate each other especially when we don’t know or understand because it can save a life. Honestly, my friends joke and say I drive like Ms. Daisy. But I don’t take offense I am a safe driver and I pride myself on that. In my paper there are several ways that we can make the road a little safer for all of us. I hope that my paper has encouraged someone to try to live a little safer and drive a little easier.

In conclusion, we all must have patience with each other when it comes to driving. Sometimes the grace you give to others will be extended unto you. Trying not to rush while leaving late can decrease the cause an accident. Take your time and try to leave a little earlier so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
