Safety measures that prevent the loss of our lives.

Unfortunately I’ve experienced car accidents first hand multiple times. Accidents on the road can happen for various reasons, being sleepy, distracted, drunk, or simply just not being aware of the rules and regulation of driving can be the cause of one’s death. Till this day driving with high tech vehicles is only possible because people are aware of the rules and communicate with one another, if a slight misconception or misunderstanding happens it can cause car crashes with multiple vehicles involved. This defines the importance of driver education.

Driver education teaches us how to act in unfortunate situations that happen on the road. To illustrate, road rage. According to studies, more than half of fatal accidents are caused by road rage, how we are expected to deal with this is by merely not engaging or creating distance between yourself and the aggressive driver, in like manner, road rage can also be reported to local authorities. As a student driver who is still practicing and learning the rules of the road, I have met many impatient drivers. Thanks to my instructor, I have learnt to be cool and move out of their way as it is far preferable to engaging and possibly causing an accident. While learning how to drive I’ve witnessed multiple collisions happen on the road, my instructure was behind the wheel when this particular collision occurred. On the highway exit, we were stopped at a red light, it was the evening of a Saturday and really dark. A GMC car had a slow reaction when getting off the highway and rear ended an old couple behind us, this resulted in a chain reaction in which we were rear ended too. All three of the drivers were shocked and got out to observe the damages as well as explaining to one another about what happened and the cause.

This made me realize that when driving, we are putting our safety in the hands of others and hoping that they follow the law and don’t put us and everybody else in jeopardy. Ensuring safety while driving is a shared responsibility which is why everybody is taught the same knowledge and why everybody has to attend a driving course.

In order to lower the number of deaths caused by such accidents, taking a driving school is not the only vital measure. Airbags, seatbelts, and windows that are tough to battering are installed in vehicles worldwide, the only way for these installations to serve their purpose is for the drivers and passengers to follow the safety regulations.

In America, more specifically states like California, Taxes, and New Hampshire are listed to have the highest number of deaths caused by car accidents. Fun fact, these are also the states that have the lowest rate of wearing seatbelts. Let me not forget to mention, during the accident on Saturday evening, my little siblings that are no older than 10 were present in the back seat. I’ve always wondered why others had a note attached to their car stating: CHILD PRESENT with an orange triangle. Now I know.

When one has a bad day and decides to go for a drink, there is nothing wrong with that as long as they don’t drive themselves home. When they do, their bad day becomes everybodies bad day. To reduce the high number of deaths caused by car accidents we all need to discipline ourselves and become aware of the fact that our choices have consequences that affect others. I will always be reminded of the dangers of driving because there is this house that I pass by every time I’m out practicing driving. This house displayed a vehicle that was involved in a car accident in front of their lawn with a cross over it and the names of the ones that lost their life in that car. Driving may be an everyday occurrence to most of us, but to others it’s a reminder of their loved ones.

Hence, why we should receive proper training and proper knowledge of driving.

Driver education is important to reducing the amount of deaths caused by car collisions in so many ways. Even now, as I am writing this I am wondering about how that house owner is doing and whether or not the person that they lost was someone really important to them. Driver instructors are especially trained for their jobs, the knowledge they provide us with is the knowledge that will save our lives. Let’s all encourage one another to be careful and follow the law while driving.
