How having Driver’s Education will help improving driving everywhere
Response to Question A: The importance of taking Driver’s Ed is knowing the rules of the road and how to drive responsibly which will help reduce the number of deaths on the road by at least half. I believe many deaths happening in car accidents are due to irresponsible driving and mistakes that the solutions can be taught in Driver’s education classes. There are so many easy fixes that can help decrease accidents on the roads, and Driver’s education being so expensive everywhere and not having it in schools decreases the willingness for people to properly learn how to drive. It was $700 for me to take a 6-week driver’s education course, and a lot of my friends couldn’t afford it and here in Washington State you aren’t legally required to take Driver’s Ed. You can wait till you are 18 to get your license to save money, but by having that policy you are giving keys to a person who doesn’t know/care about the rules of the road and that can cause many accidents. So by taking Driver’s Education classes you can understand and help prevent deaths when you are driving.
Response to Question B: The first step to reducing the number of deaths is making Driver’s Education classes cheaper and putting them back in High schools so that every kid can be required to learn how to drive and know the basic rules of the road. Doing that will help the burden of trying to pay for outside driver education when it’s a required class in High school to take. Another step that can be taken is having people be required to take the driving tests again every 3 years so that it shows that people are still capable of driving safely which can reduce the number of deaths and accidents. A third step is that the police should enforce the rules of the road because I see so many people breaking the law every day and it causes an unsafe driving environment for everyone including themselves. It makes me very scared to drive every day because I almost get into so many accidents due to unsafe drivers. By having the police enforce the laws, it makes people scared to break the law and get a ticket or arrested and it creates a safer driving environment for everyone. Finally, the last step that can be taken is people wearing their seatbelts every time they drive. In the past wearing your seatbelt was so important because of the click-it-or-ticket law and like I said in the previous example the police enforced that law and it encouraged people to wear their seatbelts so they wouldn’t get a ticket. Now people don’t care if they wear seatbelts or not. Studies show that 50% of people who died in car accidents were not buckled up, so we can fix this problem first by wearing a seatbelt every time you get into the car, you can encourage others to wear it too so they can protect themselves from danger
Response to Question C: I didn’t see this but I know that my dad was driving under the influence one night, committed a hit-and-run accident on another car, and got arrested under a DUI charge. The blowback from this incident on my family was huge. It cost us about $7,000+ for him to go to court so he doesn’t have to serve more jail time, for him to go to classes to learn about the impacts of a DUI on everyone and how to not commit a DUI again, and not having a license anymore. It just makes me scared to drive. It taught me a lesson that I will never forget: Don’t do alcohol or drugs and get behind a wheel because it causes a lot of damage from everything to physical damage to cars to relationships in your family.
Response to Question D: The steps I can take are to not follow in my dad’s footsteps and be under the influence of anything while driving. Another step I can take is to turn my phone on to not disturb it while driving so I am not tempted to look at it when I am concentrating on the road. Also remind others when they are getting in my car to have their seatbelts on and when they are driving, making sure they are focusing on the roads by taking away any distractions like talking to them or having the music super loud so they can be safe drivers. Taking these steps every day will help slowly diminish car accidents and deaths.
