The Crucial Role of Drivers’ Education and Responsible Behavior

I was recruited by the FBI as a member to become a special operations agent job, all due to the extensive internships that my college offers. One way to get into the FBI is to have a perfect driving record. One that I have due to my driving knowledge. Drivers’ education is extremely important because it impacts how we all drive on the road. Through driver’s education, many people learn the regulations and laws of driving. What and what not to do to protect others on the road, but most importantly to also help protect themselves. Drivers’ education teaches individuals that they need to learn how to drive defenselessly, because if everyone drives that way, then that makes all the roads safe. Given if everyone is too scared to steer away from the laws set in place. These laws may be learning what the different colored lights mean at intersections or how four-way stops work. Numerous rules are learned through driver’s education which helps build a defensive mechanism for new drivers. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for maturing adults. Given that most people are given lessons around the age of 16 to 17, they are quite new to the idea of driving. But education significantly helps because it teaches many people to stay defensive and given that it does just this; deaths occur less and less. Deaths decrease because there are rules set in place. So, if everyone follows those rules then there is a high chance that everyone will help reduce death rates among drivers. Not only can drivers’ education help reduce the number of accidents that occur every day, but there can also be a reduction in drunk drivers. Although popular opinion may contradict this, I believe that every car should be built with a breathalyzer to help measure someone’s Blood Alcohol Concentration level. That way society can address the root of the problem since most people think that they are responsible enough to handle driving in such conditions. To add on, that means that transportation should be available and accessible for all those who were deemed not fit enough to drive. One pro of this could also deter people from buying cars; which can also help climate change. So as a society, we’d be reducing crash accidents and stopping climate change altogether. Fortunately, I have never really experienced my family members driving irresponsibly. But there was one time that I was in a car with a girl I used to be friends with. And she was vaping while driving, and that scared me very much. We were at my track, and I told her that I was starving. Telling me that she would buy me McDonald’s, we both got into her car. She had driven a mile before she took out her vape and started vaping the car. Offering me to take a puff was one of the hardest roadblocks I had to get through. I have been with this friend for a while, and I liked her. But at that moment I realized that she was not my friend because she had put me in danger by driving irresponsibly. Not only that, but she knew the amount of trouble I could get into if I was caught anywhere near a vape due to the school’s sports regulations. So, that day I made a hard choice. I gathered my courage and told her that vaping was bad for her and that she should discontinue using it. She was very mad and pushy, telling me that I was no fun and that I should try it so that she could call me a cool kid. She was honestly degrading me, but I knew my worth. I knew that I was cool, in a safer way. I knew that vaping was not cool and that it would only harm my health as it had done to her over the years. So, I flat-out said no. And she told me that if I did not try it, she wouldn’t buy me McDonald’s. So, I told her I was fine with that. I unlocked her door at the stoplight we were at, and I left the car and ran back to the stadium. I never talked to her ever again, for I realized that she was truly never my friend. Moving along, I could be a safer driver in many ways. I could also make sure to do my best to obey the traffic laws, stop signs, traffic lights, and speed limits. I could avoid using my phone and changing the radio station. And only drive when I am fit to do so which means not driving while drowsy. I should also do a better job of reminding myself and others to consistently check up on the car’s brakes, lights, and other devices that are only there to help protect us. Better phrased, are there to help enhance the safety of our driving. But most importantly, led by example. If any of my friends are in the car, I will make sure to follow all these safety precautions so that they follow in my footsteps. And so that they do the same for others and their younger siblings. So that we lead by example and create a safe community of defensive drivers.
