How Can Someone be a Better Driver

Driver’s education plays a very important role in reducing accidents by giving kids my age knowledge and skills to make the roads safer. The highest number of deaths globally is usually traffic accidents. There is a big difference between the rules of the road and how someone can be a defensive driver and notice risk before it happens. Another thing that driver education is going to help is to show kids the consequences of unsafe driving behaviors. In most states, accidents often occur due to avoidable mistakes. Things like speeding, distracted driving, or operating something under the influence of either drugs, pills, or alcohol. I think driver education helps people realize that these risks can cause minor accidents or at worst death. Driver education helps teenagers reduce these risks by teaching them how to notice hazards, reacting to emergencies, and understanding how to control a vehicle.

Some ways driver education helps mitigate these risks by teaching drivers how to stay alert, maintaining a safe following distance, obeying traffic laws, following all of the signs of the road. Another way in my opinion that drivers education helped me was telling me and showing me many different accidents that scared me into believing that these things were real.

Some steps that can be enforced to reduce the number of deaths related to traffic related things could be by enforcing the law better and picking up on distracted driving. Another way this can be mitigated is by making you have to take a test to renew your license. This would help with people are getting older and makes sure people stay updated on all the rules of the road as well as new and updated rules. Another thing I have noticed in Pennsylvania is the road conditions causing accidents that can lead to death. Things like potholes, unmarked lanes, and lack of signage. I have witnessed things like people running eachother off the road based on some of these conditions.

One experience I have had while driving 2 months after I got my license was while I was making a left turn someone made a right on red. This intersection is always a busy one where issues have occured in the past. So let me take you to this day in particular. I was on my way to pick up product from a different location for my job. This intersection has 4 lanes on each side going north and south and a 3 lane going east and west. So when making a left turn you have 2 lanes. I was on the outside lane as I was turning left I noticed another car making a right turn and someone pulling out. The person turning right didn’t see the car pulling out, but in his defense the guy didn’t stop at the stop sign. To make this worse he had a trailer. So as i was turning left there was no one next to me at this given point so I reacted and shifted lanes. This then made the truck with the trailer cut me off trying not to get reended. Which I had to react again and pull into the grass median. I had to react many different times and react in many different ways within a time of 15-20 seconds. I think if I hesitated it could of ended in a multi-car pile up. I think me having confidence in what I was doing saved everyone around me as well as myself.

I think some steps I can take to become a better and safer driver is to maintain knowledge. Another way i can be a safer driver is to not focus on my phone, changing music, and adjusting my maps while driving and wait until I can pull over safely. Another way I think I can be a safer driver is driving more. THis is because if you know the roads then you can know what to pay attention for as well as what you can change to become a better driver. If your driving on a new road you don’t know how people on that road will act. For instance, around my school and especially the parking lot, people like to speed, pull out in front of people, as well as be distracted while driving, so I know that I have to react differently while in this situation.. This is one way that I can become a better driver. Another way is keeping up on my car and making sure that there is nothing wrong with it. If your alignment is even the slightest bit off then you can hit a pothole and crash if something is wrong. This is just some ways that I think driver education helps people and how it helped me be a safer and better driver to keep everyone safe around me.
