Drivers can save or hurt others

As an 18-year-old girl, I initially dreaded taking driver’s education during the summer. However, I later realized that without it, I wouldn’t have learned how to drive and might not have been as cautious about my speed. I love driving just like any teenager, especially those who enjoy speeding, which can lead to serious crashes. Driver education provides essential training that every individual is or may be required to complete, equipping drivers with proper techniques for operating vehicles. It is an excellent preparation for young adults, covering basic vehicle maintenance, safety precautions, traffic regulations, and laws.

Growing up, I never fully appreciated the impact of driver’s ed. I didn’t realize we needed classes for something as fundamental as driving. Driving isn’t as simple as I thought; driver’s education teaches you a lot to ensure you don’t get into a car crash. It’s crucial for reducing car crash deaths because there shouldn’t be so many fatalities involving vehicles. Lives are lost, and families mourn, which underscores the importance of preventing further loss and damage. To achieve this, you need to understand the proper mechanics of a car and consider not just yourself but others around you. Vehicles are meant for safe transportation, providing faster access for everyone to get home, to work, or school. Everyone should always take precautions while driving and not risk the lives of others. Through the compression of the driving program, it emphasizes the importance of driving, involving the actions of other drivers and the measures to avoid collisions. Continuing with the driving education it gives responsible behavior for others to remember to use seat belts, adhere to speed limits, and avoid distractions while driving.

Two years ago, I was out like any normal teenager when I got into a crash. Fortunately, nothing happened as the car was parked. All I remember is breaking down in fear of what my parents would say and what if there had been someone inside. I still think about it every time I get in a car and have a fear of driving because I don’t want to crash again. I know crashing into a parked car isn’t the same as hitting someone inside, but the fear remains. As a driver, I am cautious about how fast I go and how I drive. I make sure to get from point A to point B without anything happening. Driving around people has made me realize how many people drive recklessly as if they have nine lives. I’ve almost been hit countless times by someone running a red light or going 70 mph on a 40 mph road. This has made me realize how important it is to be aware of others and prioritize vehicle safety.

Choosing to drive safely over recklessly is often challenging, especially when people are in a hurry for work or school. The best outcome is to drive safely, as it is far better than missing a whole day due to a crash caused by reckless driving. Distractions such as texting, applying makeup, or eating should be avoided, as they can significantly impair your ability to react promptly to sudden stops or changes in traffic flow. Keeping your focus while driving is paramount, as lapses in attention can lead to serious accidents and injuries. Inside the car, safety measures like wearing seat belts are simple yet crucial acts that ensure passengers’ well-being. Additionally, always being aware of your surroundings, maintaining a safe following distance, ensuring vehicles at red lights stop adequately, and making sure pedestrians are clear before proceeding are essential practices. By following these safety precautions, you not only protect yourself but also contribute to the overall safety and well-being of all road users. It is crucial to think about others as well as oneself in a world where vehicles are the primary mode of transportation.
