Safe Drivers
Driver’s education is a key factor to reducing the number of deaths by the act of driving through stricter passing grades for testing on the road and on paper. For example, in high school I did lose a friend to a car accident crash even though I was not aware if the driver was impaired. A life sometimes cannot be so valued until one sees one taken from you. Getting your driver’s license should not be about an individual passing a test for one’s own sake; it should encompass all angles of driving and common etiquette. We can never take common sense to be so common, don’t you agree? Individually, as a society and as a nation we need to stand up together to make everyone accountable. There needs to be no favoritism, no persuasion or even any chance of cheating because this is a serious matter that is being taken lightly based on the number of deaths alone. Even more so today, there are so many ways of transportation, such as motorcycle, bicycle, dirt bike, electric bike, sedan, convertible, SUV, crossover, coupe, truck, and boat too. Putting more people on the road does not help the safety of our community.
First, when I was in college at UCONN, we were on a field trip in Boston – after the performance we went out and had a party in the town. On the way back we were stopped at a red light and then out of nowhere the car I was in and the one in front of us got hit by a drunk driver. My girlfriend at the time was rushing to the hospital in an ambulance and the police made the rest of us walk to the hospital, while I was under a slight concussion. Ever since then I have had difficulty wanting to be the passenger and wanted to always have control of my lifer the most. This exact experience always increased my awareness and at all costs. Also, in college you do deal with a lot of peer pressure and instances where I got in a car with an irresponsible friend/student at the time. Nothing else worse than not having control of your own life or the outcome of what happens. Please be responsible as I did experience my own family drunk driving stories from my own father and unfortunately, he died at my age of 20 from a motorcycle accident, which crippled me mentally and emotionally.
Second, based on my experiences through life as a passenger and a driver – I have completely changed my perspective on life, what I do with my life and expressing the value of ANY life. I for one did become sober and drug free due to the acts of unkindness and seeing history repeat itself before my very own eyes. At the age of 42 now, I have been substance free, which has made my driving record perfect since then with no tickets, no accidents, no toxicity, and no wrongdoing. Having the knowledge and experience at an early age has let me see hope and this is what has been passed down to my family, friends, and anyone I value and hold close to. This is all about doing good in the world and adding to the character of myself, which helps my mind, my abilities and not getting in the way of any negativity on the roads or even in a parked car. A moving vehicle is like a weapon, do not think that we are safe because of the car company, the features or even by prayer being God’s soldiers. I always tell people, my top 3 values in life are health, relationships, and time. Without any of those, you will not live, have relationships, or get to live until you are older. Let’s take the time now to pray and be thankful for what we have been given thus far as the short time we are on this Earth, we need to cherish every moment and remember the more good we do in this world the better everyone else will and that will show you how much this all rubs off on others. Driving school, the education we get, the way we preach to others and the ability to let people know when they are in the wrong are key factors to making this world a better place, don’t you agree? Now is the time to make a move on the system and place a better education for all the drivers who want to be drivers.
