My Commitment To Road Safety

Although driving is a necessary skill, it also entails much responsibility. Having been in two small auto accidents, I’ve learned this the hard way. In one, I struck a car door, and in another, I rear-ended another automobile, another driver hit my parked car. I became frustrated and afraid of getting into trouble as a result of these encounters. But they also helped me realize that if I had been more vigilant and cognizant of my surroundings, the accidents may have been avoided. Despite having the necessary schooling to drive, I soon discovered that it was insufficient to prepare me for the difficulties I would encounter on the road.

One of the most enlightening experiences I had was getting lost in a one-way parking lot. I had no idea which way I was meant to go, and it was almost impossible to see the faded arrows that showed the direction of traffic. I realized that more real-world scenarios should be incorporated into driver instruction, such as learning how to maneuver around parking lots with inadequate signage or navigating less-than-clear roads. Even though I had passed all the required driving tests, I felt unprepared for that situation. This experience led me to conclude that to guarantee that new drivers are completely equipped for the unpredictable nature of real-world driving, driver education should place a greater emphasis on realistic, hands-on driving scenarios.

The pervasive distraction brought on by cell phones and other technologies is another important component in today’s driving-related fatalities. It is all too easy to be tempted to check a text, take a call, or browse social media while operating a motor vehicle. To resist temptation, I decided to keep my phone in the glovebox while I was driving. I don’t want to ruin anything because I was even briefly distracted. I get a mix of anger and dread when I witness other people driving recklessly. I feel like I’m seeing a catastrophe unfold. I become agitated because I question whether these drivers have received adequate instruction on how risky their behavior is. I am aware that many incidents could be avoided if drivers were more aware and careful of their surroundings, whether they are speeding, texting, or failing to pay attention to the road.

I would stress the value of education if I had the chance to instruct others on safe driving practices. Although accidents can and do occur, they can be avoided with the correct information. One day, when I have kids, I would much rather have them in an accident and know exactly what went wrong and how they might have prevented it than have them get into one with no idea what to do in the first place. I want to ensure that the future generation is completely equipped to make safe judgments while driving since education may make all the difference.

I intend to be dedicated to safe driving as I develop and gain knowledge from my experiences. I’ll continue to be mindful of my surroundings, keep my phone out of reach, and make sure I always follow traffic patterns. I’ve developed several behaviors that will help me stay focused and attentive, and I’ll encourage others to follow suit.
