Education Initiative

During
the 21st Century there has been a massive increase in the amount of
car accidents that have been reported. An average of 34,000 people
die per year in car accidents. Accidents can be caused by many
reasons. When driving, there are many things to keep in mind. Being on
the road you have to realize that you’re not only responsible for
everyone in the vehicle, but also anyone else who gets injured while
you’re behind the wheel. Being behind a wheel means you can’t have
any distractions, drive under the influence, speed, and many other
things that make you a good driver. When driving you have to put
everything aside.

Trying
to choose a song or apply lip gloss while driving can be very
dangerous and is not encouraged. Many car accidents can be major and
result fatal.
Average
number of car accidents in the U.S. every year is 6 million: More
than 90 people die in car accidents everyday. 40% of accidents happen
while drivers are under the influence of alcohol, 30% are because of
speeding, and the last 30% are because of reckless driving. Many, at
the moment of the action, think it’s “cool” or “fun” but
there can be real consequences. As a result, 6% car accidents are
fatal, 27% result with a non-fatal injury, and 72% result with
property damage.
Seat
belts reduce the risk of death by 45%” People not wearing a
seatbelt are 30 times more likely to be ejected from the vehicle
during a crash. There are many things we can do as drivers to reduce
the probability of being in a car accident.

First,
keeping your vehicle in good condition. Making sure the brakes, your
windshield, your lights, even your windows are working correctly.
Second, anticipating the actions of others. Making sure you’re not
too close to any car and always watching out when other cars are
switching lanes, making sure you break with caution and not all of a
sudden, and not getting distracted by other drivers. Also, always
making sure the first thing you do before you start driving is
putting your seatbelt on. Making sure you take that last bite of
your food or playing the right station so you have no distractions
while being on the road. While driving make sure to always carry a
valid permit or license. Also, making sure you have valid car
registration and a copy of your insurance. And always make sure
you’re going at the speed limit. Only drive when you’re well rested
and always expect the unexpected.

There
are many ways to be and stay safe on the road. You can do many things
to prevent being in a car accident, or at least reduce the
probability. Accidents are less likely to happen if you follow the
rules of the road and avoid distractions. If we all put effort in
following these rules, we can make the roads a safer place for
everybody.
