Lack of Knowledge Isn’t an Excuse

Driving is a major part of everyday life, whether you are a kid getting a ride to school or a teenager learning to drive or an adult driving to work. While driving is very common, it is also very dangerous. Drivers with better knowledge of driving laws and awareness of the road could have prevented these deaths.

The importance of drivers education is providing drivers with all the knowledge they need before they ever sit behind a wheel, which can help prevent accidents. Different states have different rules and guidelines for someone to get a driver’s license. One of the requirements is that the future driver takes a certain amount of hours at a driving school. There they learn about the different laws that their state and country have and why they are enforced. These students also learn about driving techniques to keep themselves and others safe, whether they’re in a car, on a bike, or walking. Driver education allows for people to learn about the safety guidelines in place, what they do, and why they were made. If there were no speed limits, there would be a lot more crashes and thus more deaths. If all passengers in a car aren’t wearing a seatbelt, they could get seriously injured or die if in an accident compared to if they had worn a seatbelt. Driver education is a key factor to prevent accidents and car accident related deaths.

Having the knowledge of driving laws doesn’t completely prevent an accident. Ensuring that people understand the laws and why they were made is crucial to preventing accidents and deaths. There are many steps that can be followed to prevent a car accident, like being alert at all times, don’t look at your phone at all, don’t mess with the radio while driving, and more. Technology has advanced tremendously over time to keep all drivers safe, but drivers should still remain aware of everything happening on and around the road. One of the newer issues occurring today is people frequently looking at their phones. They get a text or a phone call, and feel they have to answer immediately. Also, people enjoy listening to music while driving, but if they don’t like the song or want to skip an ad, they have to look at the radio or their phone to change it. Looking away from the road for even a second can cause an accident. Anything can happen in that second, a car brakes ahead of you, a kid runs out in front of you, or you could swerve into the next lane. All of these can lead to someone dying because a text was more important than keeping your eyes on the road. Having the knowledge to prevent an accident and actually using it is vital.

I have been lucky enough not to have been in a car accident or seen my friends or family drive irresponsibly. Which is helpful to me to know what I should and shouldn’t do to be a better and safe driver. The steps I should take to be a safe driver are numerous but are still important. I need to ensure that everyone in my vehicle has their seatbelts on before I put the car in drive and to keep my eyes on the road at all times, specifically scanning my lane, the other lane(s), and the areas around the road. Another measure is to not bother with anything in my car, and should have one of my passengers do so, allowing me to keep my eyes on the road. I must maintain the speed limit, going too fast or slow is a hazard to me and the drivers around me. I pride myself on keeping my car in good condition so that I won’t break down and panic, which could cause an accident. Along with making myself be a good driver, I can help others be good drivers too. If I am a passenger in someone’s car, I can change the radio station if they don’t like the music. I can check the text they just got or answer their phone if they get a call. If we’re travelling somewhere new, I can tell them directions and look at the GPS. These allow them to keep their eyes on the road. I can put my seatbelt on as soon as I get in the car, so they don’t have to remind me.

There are several steps to take to be a safe driver and there is a lot of knowledge to have and understand to be a safe driver. Everyone has to learn about what job they have, how to do certain chores, so learning driving regulations and laws should be required. It doesn’t take much to be a good driver and prevent accidents and deaths. Being lazy or uncaring when driving can get people killed, and that is not a good excuse. Driving is a part of daily life for many people, so we all should be safe drivers for ourselves and others.
