In
the Driver’s Seat

An
average of thirty-four thousand people die each year as a result of
driving. People don’t realize how dangerous driving really is.
Drivers ed is very important in this day and age. If we want to
reduce the amount of fatalities from reckless drivers, then we need
to enforce drivers ed way more than we do now. Some
precautions we can take before driving to reduce risks include:
driving sober, not buzzed, putting your phone away, not in your hand,
watching the road and your speed, driving a safe car, and always
being alert. I have almost been in a car wreck multiple times, some
were because of me, but most were because other drivers were not
paying attention and distracted. My mom was in a car wreck, the car
flipped multiple times and I remember how I felt when she called me
crying and scared. I was worried to death, however, she was not
seriously injured, thank goodness. One of the times I almost got into
a car wreck, my friend thought it would be funny to jerk my steering
wheel while I was going sixty miles per hour and see what would
happen. I remember I stomped on my breaks and yelled at her because
it’s not funny to play around in a car. Playing around like that
can get someone killed and it almost killed us. To become a better
driver, I can stay off of my phone so I’m not distracted driving,
and I could also encourage my friends and family members not to do
that either. I can make sure my friends don’t try to drive under
the influence of anything like drugs or alcohol, and if they try to I
could call someone to pick them up. Driving safely is very important
and I will defiantly be a safer driver, almost wrecking really opened
up my eyes to be safe while driving.
