Dmv Driving Safe Essay

I have had my license since March 1st of 2023 and I drive a 2008 Ford Ranger. In the time I have been driving, I have seen my fair share of good drivers and bad drivers, slow drivers and racecar drivers, and in seeing these I have been able to see who does and doesn’t know the proper and safe way around on the roads. It is of the upmost importance for drivers to be educated in the laws of the road. These are put in place to reduce the number of deaths and keep everyone, drivers and passengers, safe whenever traveling from point A to point B. Without the laws of the road, people would be driving at high rates of speed everywhere, driving on the wrong side of the road, or even just messing up the flow of traffic that has been designed over many years to help reduce the rate of traffic and get people where they are going faster while keeping them as safe as possible. Now while there are many laws in place and designs of roads to reduce crashes, unfortunately we are all human and make mistakes. Sometimes it can be an animal crossing the road that causes a crash or even debris that falls out of a car ahead of you. But in this day and age, a massive cause of crashes is cellphones. People get distracted making one text and in an instant it is sadly the last one they send. It happens very often today and it is very unfortunate to hear about. Something that we can do to reduce the number of deaths that are related to driving is putting our phones down. Text messages and snaps on snapchat can wait till you arrive. Your main concern should be making it to your destination safely. If someone needs you, they can call you and you use speaker phone to make the call so you can still maintain as much focus as you can on the road ahead. If we are able to change this one flaw that a lot of drivers have today, it truly would make a difference in the number of deaths in crashes. Now thankfully I have only been in one slight car accident but it was due to slick roads and I was the only car involved. I was making a left turn and it had just stopped raining so the roads were a bit slick. I made the turn a bit too fast and ended up spinning out. My car slid until it unfortunately hit a median. The good part about hitting the median is that I didn’t hit and oncoming cars which I most likely would have done had there not been a median. Unfortunately I did end up breaking my rim and bending my axle but in the end it was all material damage and I was safe in the end, just a bit shaken up from it all happening. After it had happened, someone called the police as I called my parents and I ended up having to drive my car over to a side road so that triple A could come and replace my tire and get a spare on. But then my spare was flat due to the age of the truck so I had to get some air in it then find a tire repair shop nearby and properly fill it up there. In the end I had to miss one and a half lacrosse practices due to this unfortunate event but I am very thankful to be safe and sound after this event. Now some actions I could have taken to prevent this from happening was slowing down. It was due to my speed that caused me to spin out. This is something everyone should start paying attention to. People take turns so fast to get through lights so they aren’t stuck. That isn’t what happened in my case, but it happens a lot when I am just driving around it is very concerning especially when the weather isn’t all that great. People need to learn that an extra minute waiting at the light is much better than taking a turn so fast that they end up spinning out or hitting another car while they take turns at high speeds. Overall there are many good drivers out there that know how to get to where they are going in a safe and timely manner that their only concern on the road is the drivers that aren’t like them driving safe and making sure that they drive the best they can around those who can’t drive well. People who can’t drive well need to learn the laws of the road and start abiding by them better and becoming safer drivers.
