I almost died. August 1, 2025 I was hanging out with some friends that day it was a normal day unlike any other when we got into a car there I was in the back driver seat while my 2 other friends were up front. One of my friends had just gotten a new car and wanted to go for a drive so I went and told him about this one road called plemons road. This road was known for having tight cray turns. I had told him he needed to go slow but he was too distracted by the idea of impressing his other fiend in the front seat to listen to what I had to say. I told him right before the crash to slow down and he didn’t due to being distracted by how our other friends in the front passenger seat had to say other than worried about his and the others he had in that car that day. Well he took the turn too fast and couldn’t slow down in time so the butt end of the car lost traction and we started to go sideways. We hit a reflector at about 8 miles per hour on the back passenger side. We kept going, hitting a water ditch sideways which sent us flying up in the air spinning where we cleared a barb wired fence and a 9-foot tall tree and landed on the roof of the car. All I know is that I woke up hanging upside down being held up from a seat belt. I proceeded to unbuckle and crawl out of the car and walked up the other 2 people in the car. The driver went and looked for help on a road where a lot of people don’t drive because it’s a dead end. The passenger went to the road and waited for him to get back as I sat on the in pain due to my injuries. Now please don’t get mad at me because I haven’t told you what injuries we all ended up with but I promise I will get there. The driver had returned with 2 people who called the cops. All I know is that 3 ambulances showed up multiple cop cars and a lot of people who saved my life that day. I ended up being the worst injured out of all 3 of us when they saw me it was decided to air flight all 3 of us to Amarillo now mind you we were about an hour and half north of Amarillo nowhere near a good hospital who can handle traumas. I was the first one to be air flighted to Amarillo to Northwest Texas hospital where the other two people follow. When I got there, they had told me I broke my femur, broken wrist, broke my three metatarsal in the middle of my foot, I had a hairline fracture in my C1 and a compress fracture in my T4. The driver ended up with his whole spine fractured besides the last four vertebrae. The passenger walked away with scrapes and bruises. They had determined I had anemia from blood loss I was also a major trauma risk and had a surgery the very next morning to repair my femur. All of that happened because the driver was distracted by the way his friend wanted him to drive he was distracted by the way he wanted his friend to think of him. All he cared about that day was to impress his friend in the passenger seat, and it ended up with me almost losing my life, him almost losing his life, and the passenger was lucky to walk away out of that trauma room. I had to spend Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in that hospital room where I was taking home that Monday. My life has completely changed due to a distracted driver due to someone who couldn’t pay attention to what they were doing. Now today I’m walking on my own I am taking care of my son on my own and I am doing physical therapy, so I’m able to bend my knee and walk like a normal person again. Due to a Distracted driver, I almost lost everything I had in my life because of him. Now I know this was supposed to be an essay, but I couldn’t write an essay because I had a story to tell about a distracted driver and what the consequences are when a distracted driver is on the road even with no one around. There are consequences to being distracted even if it’s with your phone, music, thoughts or even other people in the car. Because one day a distracted driver might kill someone even if they were not meaning to they still took an innocent life away from this world.
