Driving for
teens brings along lots of new freedoms and experiences yet also
drags along the dangers of the roads. Many kids having still gone
through the drivers ed program make iditotic choices behind the wheel
resulting in roughly 1.25 million deaths each year. Drivers of all
ages, not just young need to understand the consequences that come
along with making bad decisions while driving.
Driver
education holds huge importance in reducing the number of deaths on
roads because the more people are educated, the lower the chance of
them making a mistake. The more in depth the programs get, the more
educated new drivers will be when learning and beginning to drive and
the less deaths there will be. If every new driver was able to get
the message across of no drinking and driving and not to text and
drive, the roads would be a much safer place.
I think the
steps needed to be taken is more in depth lessons about the real
consequences of poor choices behind the wheel. There should be lots
of lessons getting the message across about how dangerous these
choices can be. With this, I believe the punishments should be more
severe where once someone does something that gets them into trouble,
they learn not to do it again.
I was in a minor accident,
more of a fender bender where an older adult had hit me. Whether or
not she didn’t see me or was on her phone, I’ll never know but still
the fact that it occurred was because of her unawareness or
distractions from some outside source. These type of accidents happen
all the time and are sometimes a lot worse. I have also seen some
friends driving poorly and told them not to make those choices
because in the end, losing your life over speeding or sending that
text is not worth it.
The steps I can take to be a better
driver is to be smart behind the wheel. Eliminate all distractions
and focus on where you are driving and what is going on around you.
If you stay attentive to the roads and recognize situations faster,
the better you are at avoiding those accidents. To help other
drivers, like I do now and will continue to do, is to remind them of
the dangers and making dumb choices behind the wheel as well as
explaining the consequences of the poor choices made. With these in
affect the roads will be much more safer and result in less deaths
every year.
