The Foundation of Safe Driving

Driving
is a great responsibility and a privilege for people of all ages. It
is extremely important to thoroughly learn all of the rules of the
road, and how to properly operate a vehicle before getting behind the
wheel. If all drivers recognize the dangers of driving and take all
the necessary steps to practice safety behind the wheel, the number
of deaths as a result of driving can be reduced.

Drivers
education is an extremely important part of every persons’ life.
There are a lot of aspects of driving to remember, so it is
beneficial to learn all of them before getting behind the wheel. When
people go through drivers ed, it prepares them for the
potential dangers they might face as student drivers. Drivers
education is the best way to create generations of safe drivers that
will continue to practice safe skills throughout their lives, which
can reduce the amount of driving related deaths in the future.

There
are many different dangers drivers can face while on the road,
whether it is weather related road conditions, or facing dangerous
drivers. It is important to know what to do in every dangerous
driving situation, and what adjustments need to be made in order to
stay safe. If inclement weather is changing road conditions, drivers
must slow down and pay extra attention to the behavior of other
drivers. When encountering other drivers that are not being safe on
the road, the best idea is to take it slow and let them pass in order
to keep safety as a main priority.

In
my personal experience, I was in a pretty minor car accident, but it
was still extremely scary. My family and I got in an accident on a
snowy freeway with very icy roads. As we neared stand-still traffic,
somebody behind us could not slow down because of the ice and ran
into us. Nobody was hurt, but the experience was still memorable. The
feeling of the impact is indescribable, but nothing short of scary.
Being in an accident like this constantly reminds me, especially in
the winter, that being mindful of the weather and other drivers
around me is necessary to avoid a crash.

In
order to stay safe on the roads, it is important to remember the
skills learned from the first day of drivers ed to the last,
and to continue to practice them. Drivers also must always stay alert
and avoid distractions in the car, like cell phones or loud music. It
is okay to say no to driving in places where you are uncomfortable
with the traffic or route. If family and friends are driving
unsafely, it is okay to tell them, and remind them of the importance
of driving safely. In the long run, you will always encounter
dangerous situations on the road, but if you remember the foundation
of safe driving you built in drivers ed, safe driving will
come easy, and it will inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
