How to Keep the Roads Safe

1.25
million people die a year in the US due to car crashes. This number
is astonishing because of the new technology that is at our disposal
today. This number is extremely high when there are clear ways to
reduce it. Two ways that this number can be brought down is by
beginning to implement self driven cars and pass laws to reduce the
use of cellphones while driving.

Several
companies have already begun research to begin to create self driven
cars or already have these cars available for purchase on the market.
With these self driven cars there has been plenty of controversy
surrounding whether or not they are ready to be mass produced and be
used within society because of the safety concerns that people have.
However, with the current technology at this disposable of these
gigantic car companies the last thing that people should be worried
about is safety. Throughout the past decade we have seen an enormous
leap in the safety provided with cars from blind spot awareness
indicators and self braking systems. Within the next couple of years
we should expect these features along with a bunch of new ones along
with artificial intelligence that is second to none. Once people
realize that these cars are the key to the future of the industry we
will see a drastic increase in the economy regarding the car industry
as well as plenty of new investors. With the new money invested into
the industry it will simply lead to more improvements and models for
self driven cars.

Another
way that the roads can be made safer, and can be applied today is
reducing the use of cellphones. I believe all states should pass laws
with severe consequences for people being caught with phones in their
hands, regardless if they were being used or not. By simply having it
in their hand they are the drivers around them as well as themselves
as risk. These laws should make people understand the severity of
driving while using their cellphones. Licenses should be taken away
on the second offence.

Everyone
can actively try to make the roads safer by staying off of their
cellphones and throughout the next couple of years companies can
begin to implement self driven cars to make the roads a safer place.
