There is a large problem in today’s society. This issue is commonly
known as car accidents. Almost daily we hear about a new incident
relating to drivers. Most of the time the news we hear isn’t happy.
Typically a death because of a distracted and uneducated driver.
Drivers ed is very important for everyone to understand. From
toddlers to the elderly, this knowledge should be expanded. Why, you
ask? The lack of knowledge drivers may have, increases the number of
deaths. This is a very serious matter and should be taken into
context. Imagine every student going into class to take a test
without a teacher teaching them prior. That is what it is like when
an uneducated driver steps on the gas and starts moving the vehicle.
Every driver needs more than basic skills when talking about driver
safety, in order to keep the number of deaths to a minimum.
Everyone can take steps to reduce this number. Before purchasing or
driving a hand me down car, take the Drivers ed course. This
course won’t only save your life, but the lives of others. This is
so because the students are being educated in the possible outcomes
when driving recklessly. In Drivers Ed, students learn about
everything from becoming more aware by using peripheral vision to
learning to always watch out for the fellow drivers around them. If
21 or over, keeping alcohol away from your car is the best idea
possible. That will eliminate any temptations present to drink that
poison while driving. Keeping your phone tucked in a bag or mounted
onto the window or dashboard will also eliminate the need to text and
hold your phone while driving. This causes distraction and also
causes your hands to be taken off the wheel. The phrase “two hands
on the wheel” is not only for movies.
Only one time was I ever in a car accident myself. I was driving with
my old foster mom, whom I call “Nana.” It was not Nana’s fault
for causing this accident. The two women driving behind us hit the
side of our minivan while we were taking a left turn. I was about 13
at the time. I have heard of many car accidents in my life time. My
best friend died in a car accident on Thanksgiving Day in the year of
2018. This was a very traumatic experience for me and I still get a
deep feeling in my heart when I am reminded of the holiday
Thanksgiving. Her fiance was driving distracted while going over the
speed limit. He hit the neighboring vehicle causing her to
immediately die from impact.
There are plenty of steps I can take to better my driving to become a
safer driver. With myself developing these actions, the cars around
me are able to keep calm because they will be safer as well. A new
law in my state took action on february 23rd of this year, Drivers 18
and over are no longer able to hold their devices in their hand while
operating a motor vehicle. It is suggested to mount your phone up so
you can use hands free mode, instead of completely abolishing cell
phone use. This way, GPS can still be active. I can better my driving
being extra careful to not touch my phone to change a song while
using either the gas or break. The accident of my best friend causes
me to be extra careful with my driving habits.
