Stay Safe as a Driver
Stay Safe as a Driver
Oftentimes as teenagers we learn to drive at the age of 16. There
are multiple reasons as to why we start driving, the main one is that
our parents don’t want to “chauffeur” us around anymore. As teens
we want to experience a lot more freedom and the ability to drive
provides and accomplishes that for us. While driving, we feel the
necessity to be the fastest on the road but that is a dangerous
mindset to have. Schools should spread the importance of staying safe
as a driver. Speed limits and laws are set for a reason.
Along with following the rules of driving, the single most
important thing is to drive the speed limit. After that it is
imperative that people don’t drive under the influence. According
to drivingschool.net, “… while it might be fun to drive fast, it
is incredibly dangerous. When you drive at fast speeds, you lose your
ability to control your vehicle and you put the well-being of
everyone else on the road at risk.” I have seen roadside signs of
the “Don’t drink and drive in loving memory of …” Honestly,
it’s very sad, especially since one of my friends’ dad and uncle
were caught in an accident with a drunk driver.
A long time ago, I was with my mom when she stopped at a four way
stop with another car that was attempting to drive perpendicular to
her. At the time, I was quite young. Anyways, they waved each other
on in hopes of being kind but it didn’t go as smoothly as some might
think as they both went and weren’t able to stop in time. The other
person ended up hitting the back of our car and we were sent into a
spiral. Luckily, no one was hurt or injured and it was simply a bad
case of miscommunication. All it did was shock me a little.
In this case, the crash could have easily been avoided if they
stopped waving each other on and possibly followed the rules of the
road. Whoever arrived at the stop first should have been the one to
leave first as well. If they arrived at the stop at the same time,
then they should have waved once and patiently waited for the other
to drive away. There are many different ways that this situation
could have been avoided.
Educating people
on and about driving safely matters, especially if kids and teens are
in a setting for learning. Driving too fast and under the influence,
not paying attention or understanding the rules of the road and not
checking the mirrors could end ours and other people’s lives. It is
extremely important that we are very careful drivers on the road. Not
only do you need to be careful but you need to take things and signs
very seriously as well. Do not wait until an accident happens because
you or another person might not make it out alive. That’s why it is
imperative that we have safe drivers on the road.
