Reckless Driving or Reckless Endangerment?

Reckless
Driving or Reckless Endangerment?”

When
I was thirteen, my mom was involved in a serious car accident. While
on the freeway, she was hit head-on by a drunk driver. As a result,
my mom broke both her feet and ended up with thirteen screws in her
feet. She was bound to a wheelchair for the next several months. To
this day, she still has trouble walking normally and requires an
ankle brace for certain athletic activities. I love my mom more than
anything, and because of an unsafe driver, I almost lost her. This is
why I am so passionate about this issue. I am very well aware of the
importance of safe driving and effective drivers ed because it
is quite literally a life or death situation.

The
average car weighs about one or two tons, so it is crucial that a
driver is responsible and safe when driving one. The result of any
mistake they make could potentially be fatal. As a driver, I am
appalled by the number of irresponsible things I see other drivers do
every single day. Any time I drive I see people cutting people off,
running red lights, and speeding. It is only a matter of time before
one of these bad decisions backfires and someone gets hurt. I believe
that if these drivers learned to be more cautious, the roads would be
a much safer place with less risk of fatalities.

As
with most things, I think that as drivers gain more experience, they
become more comfortable behind the wheel and start to take more
risks. I believe this is the main problem. Drivers should not be
taking any risks. Driving is already dangerous enough. Drivers should
be playing it safe, being cautious and making wise decisions so that
there is no chance of anyone being injured or dying.

When
it comes to driving, I pride myself on my cautiousness. I know how
dangerous a car can be, so I take safe driving very seriously. I
never cut people off. I am very cautious about when it is clear to
turn or change lanes. I never run red lights because I always stop
when the light turns yellow. I may annoy other drivers by sitting at
a stop sign at a busy intersection for a long time, but I would
rather annoy one driver than be rear-ended by another for pulling out
in front of them.

I
believe that distraction and impatience are the main causes of
reckless driving. We live in a society based on instant
gratification. People want to get to their destination and do things
right away. If they receive a message while they are driving, they
want to respond right away, which is very dangerous. When driving,
people must be focused on the road and should not be in any rush.
When drivers are going too fast or are not paying attention, they are
unable to react to situations that arise and can cause potentially
fatal accidents.
