Drivers Ed Essay
Driver’s
education is an important landmark in one’s life. It is when they
learn how to control their freedom. Although it is very popular, it
isn’t very thorough. You take a quiz, drive around the block and if
you perform well once
you are permitted “safe to drive”. But what about all the other
times? The times when they didn’t slow down in time and bumped into
the car in front of them. The times when they sped through all those
red lights. The time when they were speeding and T-boned a van
containing a woman and her two children that are put in the hospital
due to the other person’s reckless driving. As a society we have to
do better. I suggest a more extensive test. Instead of driving with a
human instructor, how about a robot one? The testing car could have
sensors on the exterior that could detect when misconducts have
occurred. If the tester has X amount of misconducts or less, they
pass. If not they fail. This would show how they drive while they are
alone in the car without the pressure of being observed.
Thankfully,
I myself have not experienced a car accident as of the time this is
written. I have come very close too many times. My mother has had to
swerve out of the way of another careless driver on the road so my
little sister and I wouldn’t get hurt. We have witnessed many
accidents as well. We have passed by collisions on our way to school.
One occurred right behind us while we were driving home one day. Had
we not passed the intersection when we did, it would have been our
car that was hit.
Being
a safe driver is more than watching the road and checking your
blinkers, it means you have to encourage safe driving to our youngest
to our oldest. Reckless driving has too much of a presence in media.
This exposes our children to the idea that reckless driving is okay,
when it’s not. I encourage reducing the amount of dangerous driving
shown to children at the ages when they don’t know right from wrong
as nothing more than punishment or reward. We also can create better
cars. Cars that will help fix human error. We already have many cars
that have been released that have the kind of technology that will
help make our roads safer. If we can make those cars at such a rate
that price drops enough for the lowest middle class citizen can
afford one, accidents would be a thing of the past. No matter what,
safe driving is an important subject that needs to be taught more
often in schools and our everyday lives. Reducing the amount of
careless drivers in the world will help increase the amount of lives
and money saved. About 230 million dollars is spent annually on cars
repairs due to car accidents. That comes up to 820 dollars per person
in the US. More
than 90 people die every day due to road traffic crashes. That makes
6 million people in a year.
