Every teenager
dreams of the day they get their driver’s license. Once they turn
sixteen, it’s immediately time to take that “driver’s Ed”
test. Though it is an important step in a teens’ life, it can’t
be passed without a little studying. When it was my time to study for
the driver’s test I was shocked by the number of things I didn’t
know about driving and the road. For example, I never knew there was
a difference between dotted lines and solid lines. Imagine if I just
blew off studying but passed. I would’ve gotten my car totaled by
now. It’s so easy for teens to skip the hard work and jump right
into the situation at hand. When it comes to driving, just jumping in
can result in a harmful or even fatal outcome. It’s important for
teens to take the time out to sit and put in some elbow grease and
study. It’s amazing the number of little things a teen wouldn’t
know without it.

Most
car-related deaths are from texters or drunk drivers. In this day and
age, there’s really no excuse for texting or drinking while
driving. We live in an age where there is a car service that can pick
us up if we’re a little tipsy and safely take us home. We’re also
able to speak into our phones to reply to messages. If we just take
advantage and use the resources we have planted in our laps, the
death rate will surely decrease. We live in a day and age where
resources are created to help keep us safe.

Though
I wasn’t in a car accident myself, my childhood best friend was when
we were about seven. She and her mother were driving from a swim meet
in the middle of the storm. Her mother couldn’t see very well since
the rain is coming down pretty hard and she crashed full-on into a
card in front of her. She was in a neck brace for the next couple of
months, and my friend was really bruised up. Though I wasn’t in the
car with them and I wasn’t physically hurt it hurt me to see my
friend and her family so shaken up. For the next couple of months, my
friend was nervous to get in a car altogether. Sometimes especially
in situations like those we have to make sure we pay good attention
to the road.
