Safe Driving

Hello,
my name is Nicole and I want to talk about safe driving.

Safe
driving? Why do you want to talk about safe driving? I want to talk
about safe driving because I know that a lot of us don’t think
about safety when we drive. Most of us just want to get our
destination and we don’t think about what we missed or what could
happen.

Safe
driving education is important, and we need to keep teaching it. When
we know what to do in an accident or how to lower the chance of us
starting an accident, we can possibly lower deaths and lower the
numbers of accidents. I don’t think much about it and I’m sure
you don’t either. It doesn’t matter how old you are or if you a
parent. It hurts and it’s scary to loose someone to a car or
motorcycle accident. Can you imagine if you were a parent or a
sibling saying “see you later” to your child or sibling, and then
all of sudden you get a call. That call isn’t from them, it’s a
call from a friend of officer saying that your child or sibling has
just been killed. It’s not fair isn’t it? You didn’t have a
chance to say a proper goodbye.

We
need to take steps and reduce accidents. We need to start thinking
more about these issues. Imagine what it would be like for your
family to get a call that you died. We all learn something everyday
and safe driving isn’t just a course we take in drivers ed. It’s
something that you are going to learn everyday and you have to accept
that. One of the most important step to me is common sense. Yes, I
know that technology has really changed our lives and it’s cool to
Snapchat and text. That Snapchat, text, or even call can wait. If
your phone has an option to mute your texts or calls while driving,
please use it! This also goes for drunk driving.

I
personally haven’t been in a terrible car accident but I’ve been
in the car, when my mom has hit deer or someone rear ended us. My
heart stops and all I can think about is what it would be like if it
was worse. Would we all die or would I be an orphan because my mom
died. So many thoughts have entered my mind and then I start to calm
down and be thankful that nothing bad happened to us. Now as a
college student and driving myself to campus and my appointments, I
start to think more about safe driving. I love to listen to my
country music when I drive, and yes occasionally I will get out
control with the singing. I now try to keep my music at level where I
can hear it and I can also hear things outside my car as well. I’m
also checking my mirrors and looking in the back window every few
minutes to make sure nothing crazy is happening. Of course, my seat
belt is always on.

Thank
you!
