The Importance of Driving Education

Drivers ed is an extremely important part of learning to drive.
If you are not taught how to drive properly before you get on the
road, it can end with many mistakes or even a horrible accident. To
compare it to something more understandable, it is like sports. Why
do people practice their sport before a game? Well, if they do not
practice, they are likely to make mistakes that could lose them the
game. Not only that, but as they practice, they get better. The same
goes for driving. Learning before you are on the road and with an
instructor are important steps in preventing mistakes. In turn, this
will prevent more fatal and serious accidents. The more instruction
people get when learning to drive will make them better drivers. They
need to learn to not get distracted and learn proper road etiquette.
Another thing that could be done to reduce the number of deaths while
driving is to make it harder to get a license. Yes, this would be a
difficult thing to implement because of how essential driving is
these days, but I know many people who have a license that I truly
believe should not. I had a teammate once that was the worst driver.
She failed her driving test three times until she finally passed on
the fourth. She was always distracted or doing something else and has
had many accidents. She even came into practice once and bragged
about painting her toenails on the drive to school. I believe that
maybe some of her habits stem from her parents or friends’
examples, however. I believe that maybe the best way to be a safer
driver and help others be a safer driver is to set a good example. By
holding yourself to be a good example, it will make you and hopefully
others who look at you when you drive to be a better driver. Another
thing you can do to help others be safer is to hold their phone when
they are driving. I do this with my dad. He has a bad habit of
reading text and emails when his phone goes off when he is driving. I
always grab his phone and ask him if he wants me to read it aloud.
There are many things people can do in the car to help prevent
distracted driving and help decrease the amount of fatal accidents
and I believe it all starts in education. By teaching people the
proper way to drive and learning about maybe keeping others from
being distracted, the amount of accidents are sure to decrease.
