safe driving

Utilizing
drivers ed can well equipped a driver with the necessities
to practice safe driving. Even the most skilled drivers can get into
accidents. You can be doing everything right while on the road, but
one false move from another driver can cost you your life.
Anticipating the action of others and being aware of your
surroundings makes you a good driver.

Some steps
that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving
would be to always wear your seat belt. Make it a rule that whenever
someone enters your vehicle, seat belts must go on. Do not drink and
drive. If you have had a few beers, look out for your wellbeing and
the wellbeing of others and call an uber. Do not text and drive.
keep your phone in the back seat until you reach your destination and
mute it in order to avoid any distraction. Keep your radio at a low
volume. You never know when you will be alerted by another vehicle or
sirens from police cars and fire trucks are signaling you to pull to
the side. When taking a long drive, be well rested. If you start to
tire, pull over, take a rest, get out and stretch, grab a coffee.

Some steps
that I and others can take to be better drivers would be to
communicate with vehicles around us by placing turn signals. In
addition, if we see a vehicle with its blinker light on, we should
not assume it is taking that turn. Be precautious.

Furthermore,
maintaining our vehicles by making sure our brakes are working
correctly, tires are properly inflated and have traction, and windows
are clean and not smudged impairing our vision can also make us safe
drivers. Knowing the rules of the road can save lives. Having your
license is a privilege. We should treat it as such.

As far as my experience of being in a car accident, my first car
accident really shook me. I was in the car with some friends. A
friend of mine was driving us in her vehicle very irresponsibly. She
began swerving in and out of lanes to get to our destination quicker.
I placed my seatbelt on and prayed for the best. Shortly after, a car
swiped the front of our vehicle, which sent us swerving into some
water barrels. Luckily, they softened the blow, but her car was
totaled. There were some injuries, but we all got out safe. All but
one of us had our seatbelts on and on in packed she flipped around in
her seat and became discombobulated. I saw firsthand what happens
without a seatbelt on. That was surely an eye-opening experience for
me. One I will never forget.
