“Thousands of Dollars”
The importance of driver’s
education is to instruct inexperienced drivers on how to drive
correctly and safely with or without an experienced driver in the
vehicle. When people are taught something from the start, they are
able to retain any information that may be useful in different
situations when it’s needed the most. Furthermore, driver’s
education covers the importance of teenagers not falling under the
influence of drugs and alcohol. This information helps them to drive
safely and stay out of trouble with law enforcement, and it
additionally acknowledges the long-term effects intoxications can
have on their health. Whether they drive in harsh weather conditions
or encounter an emergency on the road, they at least had the guidance
of what to do in various scenarios.
For
instance, drivers ed also introduces the necessary safety
steps for new drivers. First, they need to recall the rules of the
road that they learned from their permit exam. Then, once a person
begins driving, they need an experienced driver to help teach them
how to drive on the road with other vehicles. Lastly, even after the
new driver receives their license, they should still practice small
things that could prevent big accidents from occuring. These simple
actions may include; not touching their phone while driving, looking
over their right and left shoulders before changing lanes and not
eating food while driving. All of these steps can most definitely
reduce the number of accidents related to driving.
Over
the years, I have heard stories about car accidents and also have
been a passenger in different car accidents myself. But I thank God
all the time that it wasn’t a major accident. Unfortunately, I
can’t say the same for one of my childhood friends; her name is
Isabella. Sadly, she lost her life in a car wreck on March 1st, 2020.
The news of her passing hit me hard because this is our senior year,
and she had so much in life to look forward to, just like me. Now
more than ever, I’m practicing to be the safest driver I can possibly
be.
In
conclusion, I have come a long way from being a new driver into
becoming a safe driver. Little steps like paying attention to the
vehicles surrounding my car, praying before I drive, and remembering
everything my parents have taught me matters so much when I’m
driving. My favorite tip that I recall my dad giving me when I first
started driving was him saying, “accidents can cost you thousands
of dollars or your life”. The saying reminds me of how I could
potentially hurt others, and put myself at risk if I’m not careful.
Thousands of dollars could pay to fix a damaged car, but it could
never replace someone’s life. As drivers, we can all help guide and
remind other inexperienced driver’s of the importance to drive safely
on the road. Not only can we possibly save their life, but it may
keep others safe too.
