Driving
is an essential part of many people’s daily lives. We own vehicles
for flexible transportation, freedom and comfort to go where we want,
when we want. Driving is so common that learning to drive and getting
a driver’s license are often seen as a right of passage for many
young adults like myself. Although driving is common, there are a lot
of risks and dangers involved that we can easily lose sight of. To
minimize and avoid these risks, a proper drivers ed is
important to train drivers to be cautious and alert behind the wheel
in order to ensure their safety and of those around them.

Driving
comes with a lot of responsibilities and it is very important to give
new and inexperienced drivers a strong foundation. Nervous and
untrained drivers can easily make mistakes behind the wheel that can
result in fatal accidents. Drivers ed helps to reduce that
risk by thoroughly teaching the rules of the road, mechanical
workings of a vehicle, safety reasons and consequences. This
education gives inexperienced drivers confidence behind the wheel to
make smart and safe decisions which reduces the number of fatal
accidents.

Statistics show that the cause of many fatal car accidents are often:
distracted driving, over speeding, driving under the influence and
reckless driving. The steps we can take to reduce the number of
driving related deaths are: enforcing driving laws with higher
consequences and having more traffic cameras and police officers
patrolling the streets. In addition, DMV Education can create an
incentive for safe driving by developing an app that measures good
driving daily and rewards good drivers with reedemable points. These
steps will help to make drivers more aware of the consequences of
irresponsible driving and make them more likely to practice safe
driving.

Fortunately,
I have only been in minor accidents, however, the experiences were
scary and I wouldn’t want to experience them again. I have also
witnessed friends and family drive irresponsibly by using their
phones to search for songs or access GPS while in motion. I can help
others become safer drivers by reminding them of good driving
practices whenever I witness these bad habits. I would also advise
them to use their car bluetooth feature and/or phone stand so that
they can keep their eyes and attention on the road. To become a
better driver myself, I will make an effort to leave early for my
destinations to avoid speeding. Also, I will drive defensively by
anticipating the actions of others and by paying close attention to
my surroundings.

In
conclusion, drivers ed is very important to produce smarter
drivers and safer roads. Enforcing traffic rules will also help to
maintain good driving habits and to protect lives. These preventative
measures will ultimately help to reduce the number of driving related
casualties. I hope that the numbers of driving deaths reduces as we
continue to improve as a society.
