I
think drivers being educated at any age is important. In fact, I
think drivers should be put through a safety test every few years at
least to monitor their awareness and knowledge on the road. As some
get older, new rules are created and they also lose their initial
driver safety not only to themselves but the public. With drivers
ranging in age, I believe social media is also a great way to spread
awareness on safe driving and the effects if you choose not to be a
safe driver. Nobody wants to take a loved one away from somebody and
it is the harsh reality that will remind most people what matters
when it comes to safe driving. Outside of social media, a lot of
people believe it will never be them involved in a fatal accident.
Most rush to work or a scheduled appointment because they are late
which results in reckless driving. It is something that must not be
abused and putting humanity in an honor system is extremely tough
however running a couple minutes late should be okay. It is not worth
speeding and being reckless to arrive a minute or two earlier than
expected just to be on time for work. People need to often be
reminded is their 9:00am-5:00pm shift more important than somebody’s
life? Unfortunately, drunk driving is a very harsh reality as well.
For me, my senior year, a student passed away the night of
graduation. They proceeded to get into a car after a party with
somebody who was under the influence who happened to speed and crash.
Just like that her life was gone from a simple mistake she might not
have known she made until the accident was about to happen. Ever
since that night, I have made sure to let all my friends know if they
are ever in a bad situation to let me pick them up and take them
home. It became a habit and they learned how serious it was and
started to tell their friends. From that, it branched out from one
person to hundreds who hopefully will be there for a friend or
somebody they don’t know who could be in a bad position. Of course,
some adults go to bars and drink then drive home. I believe bars
should have the right to take your keys if they believe you have had
enough drinks and that person may pick them up tomorrow. Companies
like Uber should be funded and normalized outside of bars and clubs
made so that it is very easy and accessible. With the proper funding,
prices may even be able to drop at certain times making the decision
less about saving money and more about saving a life. Until most of
these events become personal to most, no changes will be pushed hard
enough to see a change unfortunately.
