Better
Safe Than Sorry: Drive Safely

I’m
18 years old and I have been in 4 car accidents through my years. I
understand it sounds crazy, but I have. Thankfully, I’ve never been
injured in these accidents, however some people aren’t as
fortunate. Many times, these accidents that end horribly are often a
result of ineffectual drivers ed. Sometimes drivers ed
classes only scrape the bare minimum and don’t actually teach good
and effective lessons. Drivers ED classes are so important for new
drivers going on to the road because without beneficial classes, new
drivers end up getting on the road without knowledge of defensive
driving or even the best sense of different rules of the road. Many
Drivers ED teachers fail to understand that it’s not enough to
teach in a classroom but to also take that knowledge to real-life
scenarios. We can help or even take the extra steps of creating a
make-shift simulation before letting new drivers on the road so that
they can practice without interruptions and without other drivers
that could cause an interference. The amount of death’s caused by
car accidents in the U.S. total about 1.2 million a year. The
different precautions we can take to try to bring those deaths down
can include teaching new drivers about driving safely on and off the
road. We can teach how new drivers should always remain alert and
always be sober and energized before driving. In my experience, a lot
of the time a car accident happened because the driver was
intoxicated or was being distracted by friends. A wreck I’ve been
in was because the driver was distracted and didn’t notice the car
in front was slowing down. So, when they finally did notice, we
stopped a little too close for comfort but the person behind us
didn’t notice our stopping either and they hit us on our right side
of the bumper. I feel that a way I can be a better and safer driver
while helping others be safe on the road are teaching others the
ability to stay focused and alert when driving. I feel that I’ve
already been through enough car accidents to know that the smallest
things can cause a big accident.
