Safer Roads

Drivers ed is something that everyone should take responsibly. Driving behind the wheel does not mean freedom, it’s a privilege to drive. The more you know before you get behind the wheel the less chances of an accident. When driving you must look out for others along with yourself; just always watching the road and what others are doing. Some steps that can be taken to reduce deaths would be to keep the phone away. No text message, snap chat, or playlist is worth injuring you or others. Being behind the wheel and driving means that you are responsible for the control of your car. If you decide to text while driving and crash, you now have put others at risk. Always make sure you and your passengers are wearing a seat belt; for one it’s the law, but that doesn’t always mean you listen to it. Another, thing to always remember is speed kills. Speed limits are set for a reason and you are not above the law to speed. Within the past month I heard and witnessed a car crash right outside my house. Now my roads are not heavily traveled, and they are lined with woods. This young girl had over corrected her car and ended up in the woods. When I heard this, I thought for sure I would have to be calling 9-1-1. When I got to where she was, she was standing outside her car sobbing. She had been on her phone, started to run off the road, and ended up in the woods. She was about two inches from crashing into a tree that most likely would have ended her life. Remember there is no text important enough to send or look at while driving. The biggest step to be taken is to please put the phone away, buckle your seat belt, and constantly be looking for what others are doing. Speed kills even if you think you are a skilled driver, you aren’t, just slow down. My final thought on how to keep the roads safer would be every 10 years those with a license have to redo their drivers’ course. This way you are reminded of little things you may forgotten, like parallel parking.
