All Lives are Worth It
There are a huge number of safety precautions that should be taken when one gets behind the wheel. These precautions can save someone’s life, especially your own. Careless driving is the result of the lack of drivers ed. Drivers ed is a program which teaches teens the proper way to act when behind the wheel. According to a study conducted by AAA Manager of Driver Training Programs, drivers ed is known to lower the risk of crashing by 4.3% and convictions by 40% which drastically decreases fatalities and minor incidents. The importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is very high because drivers ed significantly reduces any potential crashes through the knowledge, skill, and attitude gained in the class.
To become a better, more aware driver the following advice may be beneficial. For starters, take a drivers ed class. This class not only informs you of the rules to driving, but it also grants one insight and knowledge on what some may think is legal when it’s actually not. Always ensure that the passengers riding in the vehicle are seated correctly and buckled up, there have been many fatalities from lack of wearing a seat belt, so this is very important! If one is intoxicated, always have someone else be the driver. Getting behind the wheel in that condition is a careless act which may kill someone. Drive on the speed limit, never speed even if you’re late to a meeting or an appointment. Always put your life before these meetings and drive at a comfortable speed. Texting and driving is never an option. One cannot multitask when driving, the main goal should be arriving at your destination safely.
Thankfully, I’ve only been in one minor crash. I was on my way home around 9pm and there was a huge firefighter scene next to the stoplight intersection. My light had just turned red and I came to a stop. Unfortunately, the driver behind me did not and they slammed right into me from behind. I assume they were distracted from the scene next to us. Fortunately, I was fine, but I had a headache for the next couple of days and my car had a dent on the bumper. This could’ve been avoided if the driver wasn’t distracted.
To become a safer driver take the extra steps to always be aware of your surroundings and to be cautious at all times. Always buckle up and focus on the road. These extra steps are worth taking because they save lives!
