Drivers safety begins at the age of 15 years old when teenagers first begin to take the steps into receiving a driver’s license. All at the young ages and in high school drivers ed begins and students learn the rules of the road, how to maneuver a car, and all the basic regulations that are necessary in being able to operate a vehicle. At the age of 16 years old, teenagers are then able to have their own vehicle and operate without parent supervision. Young high school kids often are oblivious and are not able to relate to the catastrophe of a car crash. The purpose of drivers ed is to educate incoming drivers on what not to do and how that affects people. The more emphasis and uniform for drivers ed and the more in depth and detail oriented the process is the more likely the death rate from car crashes will decrease.

First, a uniformed system for drivers ed would allow every driver to have the same education and understanding of safety while driving. Every state, every town, and every city would have the same background knowledge and rules for driving. Each state would have the same rules on the road. For example, some states allow an open container of alcohol as long as the driver is not drinking and in this case if every state would go to no open container it would allow for a decrease in drunk or distracted driving. Also the violation fees need to be the same for every state, for instance, texting while driving. In some states the fees for texting while driving are not as crucial as others, and texting while driving is one of the most common reasons for a car crash, therefore, all states should be on the same page. A uniformed system for drivers ed allows for every citizen and responsible driver to know what is right from wrong and the rules in place.

Second, the emphasis on how important the first steps of getting a drivers license are need to be more in depth and drilled into the children. While the kids are at such a young age and already starting to drive they have not had much experience or had a severe trauma happen. During some drivers ed lessons certain steps are blown over or not taken into enough detail. Distracted driving is one of the most common reasons for a car crash to occur, and the young kids who are so excited to just get their license do not realize the impact of being distracted. In the blink of an eye, in the moment the driver looks down anyone could cut in front of them or slam on their brakes or anything could happen and most of the new drivers do not realize how dangerous it is for themselves or even others. The more people talk about education and how it affects not just one person, the more likely people will realize how important it is to be educated in such a daily life task.

In conclusion, people need to bring more awareness to distracted driving to prevent the lost lives of loved ones. Receiving a phone call from a friends mother saying that they are in the hospital in a coma due to driving intoxicated home is devastating. The thoughts that start to run are insane and heart breaking. So many lives have been lost due to drunk driving and distracted driving and it is time that everyone become on the same page. Uber, lyft, and parents, or even other friends are always able to drive safely home without danger of being behind the wheel. Society today has become so far ahead and there are several options to take in order to provide a safe drive and the more uniform the system is the more likely less people will receive that phone call of devastating news.
