2020 Drivers ed Essay
What is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number deaths as a result of driving? Well for starters I can personally say that drivers ed played a big part in my learning how to drive safely. It was vital that I learned the rules of the road before actually getting behind the wheel. It is very important to learn vehicle safety, laws and regulations, vehicle operation, and factors affecting driving (alcohol, road conditions, distraction, etc.) and driving practice with a trained instructor. I think that drivers ed provides a through and instructional course that if learned by the driver can prevent unnecessary deaths on the road. What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?
The number one rule in my car is to always wear a seatbelt. Wearing your seatbelt can save you and your passengers from death or serious injury. Taking this one small but important step could be the difference between life and death. Being fully aware of your surroundings is another step that can be taken. Checking yourself to making sure you feel alert and clearheaded is important. Distracted driving is dangerous and unsafe. Texting and driving falls under this same category. Any distractions that take the drivers hands away from the vehicles controls can potentially lead to accidents. By putting the phone on Do Not Disturb mode or turning it off could prevent a serious and fatal accident.
Have you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? I remember a had a friend who was driving with a group of friends. There was also another group of friends following behind them. He said that they were speeding on a back road that was very bumpy. He told me as they sped over a hill he saw in his rearview mirror that car of friends behind him lost control and flipped. Thankfully all of them came out of the accident with minor injuries. This is always a reminder to me that speeding is dangerous.
What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? Definitely not getting distracted while driving for a long amount of time. Being a person who daydreams a lot, its easy for me to get distracted. That’s why I try to sing to the radio, or talk to the person in the car with me while my eyes stay glued to the road. I try to help others by being a serious backseat driver. If there is something they are doing that I find unsafe I am vocal about it. In a polite way of course. I feel like being vocal could maybe help them remember to be safer and more aware.
