Drivers ed
The drivers ed is very important in reducing the number of deaths. This education gives drivers of any age group the safety rules to follow while driving to prevent accidents both minor and serious.
Following the drivers ed rules, gives confidence to the driver, and helps him or her to become a responsible driver.
There are several steps a driver can take to reduce the number of injuries or fatalities as a result of driving. For example, keeping the vehicle in good condition by making sure all the tires are rotated and inflated. Also, having the car inspection performed yearly is a very important.
Changing the oil and making sure it is a good quality and recommended for the car model, putting on a seatbelt even if the person is sitting in the backseat is a must.
It is advisable to drive only when you are in good physical and mental condition.
Safe driving requires constant checking in all mirrors to watch other drivers, and prepare for their actions, which will help the driver to react in some situations if needed.
I had a bad experience of being in a car accident two years ago. It was on a sunny day going back home from work. I had my seatbelt on and made sure I was leaving good distance between my car and the car in front of me. After 15 minutes of driving on the right lane of the highway; I noticed the car in front of me stopped completely so I stopped. Then, I looked in my mirrors and put a signal to change my lane, but none of the other drivers allowed me to do so. After that, I turned my flashers on and kept on looking for an opportunity to change my lane.
Suddenly, after few minutes I felt the impact; my car was pushed from behind and hit the car in front of me. Then, my car was pulled hard to the back. I felt as if I was dancing and floating in the car just like I have seen in movies. The ambulance was called and EMS team took me to the hospital.
I remember crying hard from pain and fear of falling off the stretcher while the other drivers were speeding on the highway.
This accident affected me financially, physically, emotionally. My car was totaled I was sad because I owned it for less than a year.
I was without a job for several months I had to take pain medications and go through several procedures including physical therapy sessions.
The young teenage driver who hit my car with 17 years of age driving a huge truck while I was in a small Honda accord.
The police report mentioned that the driver was speeding behind me. I believe he could have been texting on the phone not paying attention to the road. I remember the first word he said to me “sorry ma’am I did not see you.”
Once my brother told me that some accidents are caused by people other than yourself. Do your best following the rules, watch your mirrors and make sure to check your car’s condition every day before you start driving.
I give advice to teenage drivers and older ones not to text while driving, and keep the phone away. If someone calls you, he or she can leave you a voice message and you can check it later not while driving. It takes a split second to get into a car accident.
Finally, following the drivers ed rules will make roads safer for everyone.
