The Importance of Driving Education

As a 16-year-old I could not wait to get my first car. I have fantasized about the first place I would go; what group of friends I would take with me. As a sophomore in High school my myth was that, I was one of the best drivers in my class. I did not take my driver’s Ed course very seriously, I thought I already knew everything that I needed to know. On the day of the written test I felt very confident that I passed, only to find out that I failed miserably. After my failed exam, I studied real hard, and learnt the rules of the road. I asked my instructor for a possible retake on the test, and it was fortunate for me that I passed the test the second time. This experience of mine made me realize the greatly importance of drivers ed. I also believe that drivers ed helps reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving. Drivers ed obtain very critical information about the way we should carry ourselves as drivers. This education not only teaches about the rules of the road, but how to behave ourselves from behind the wheel. We become aware of our surroundings, and we are able to protect ourselves, our passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers. It allows you to gain more responsibility, because you are aware that all your actions on the road has a consequence. By learning about these guidelines you become aware of how to avoid those consequences, for example drivers ed taught us that driving under the influence of alcohol, and texting and driving are extremely dangerous not only to the driver, but other innocent beings sharing the road with us. Other key points are how to obey the signs, when to yield to other drivers, and listen to the speed limit. By learning about these rules every driver has the opportunity to avoid minor crashes, life threatening accident, and even death.

I personally have been in a car accident; it was one of the worst experiences in my life. I was in the car with four individuals, I was sitting on the passengers and my friend on the driver seat. As we are driving on the parkway with great speed, my friend who was driver ask me for something to eat, and with no hesitation I handed it to him. 30 seconds later he lost control of the car, and we crashed. The car was a total lost, but me and my friends managed to escape without a scratch.

I have witness some family members driving irresponsibly. The common rules they have broken are texting and driving, avoiding stop signs, and ignore the speed limit.

To be a better and safer driver, I need to obey every law pertaining to the road, one of my habit is rushing to my destination, so to avoid that I need to leave early so I can arrive early. To help other become safer on the road I can intervene when I see an individual is not fit to drive, or if an individual is not following the rules.
