Driving Education and Awareness

Being young and inexperienced as a ten year old meant relying on others for transportation. The main two people whom I used to rely on were my two parents. One day, coming home from soccer practice, my dad was driving while I was trying to call my mom on his phone to tell her we were coming home. Feeling cool in the front seat as a ten year old, I tried to figure out how to operate this dinosaur of a phone my dad called a flip phone. My failure in figuring out the buttons made my dad reach over to help me. In that split second, everything went black. I woke up shortly after looking at a crushed hood and my dad asking me if I was alright. Luckily the only injury was a bruise on my forehead. Later I found out the reason for this small injury was my dad’s quick reflex in putting his arm in front of the airbag. I am very blessed to have gotten out of the car with a bruise, actually blessed to come out of the car alive. I know other kids that get in a car wreck sometimes die or receive tragic injuries.

The steps I have taken to have my family drive safely is nag them everyday they leave the house. I always tell them to take their time and to always pay attention to the road, basically what they tell me. Now I also make sure to be the greatest co-pilot a parent could have to ensure that we go to our destination safely. Although my dad received a driver’s education, he still made a mistake on the road to cause an accident. The wrecks caused by adults are mainly mistakes from which they have already had education and experience on. Teenagers on the other hand wreck because they have to learn the hard way. They also receive driving education but choose to show off in front of friends while driving, which is also called reckless driving. Something that could be done in order to lower the deaths of teenagers is to show them the consequences that will occur if they are not careful. Sometimes fear is a good way to establish order, but really the fear of wrecks will cause good driving and a happier future.

Thus, the driver’s education is extremely important because one can not drive without knowing the trends and rules of the road. Most wrecks are caused by reckless driving and drunk driving. We can eliminate reckless driving with teenagers by educating them more and providing more real-life examples as to what happens on the road. Luckily, science has advanced into the automobile by making an ignition with a breathalyzer. Not passing that breathalyzer does not allow the car to turn on. Steps like these are what we should keep coming up with. We need to take steps that encourage people to control their emotions when driving. We need to somehow show people that forgiveness can go a long way when it comes to the lives of others on the road. Honestly, this will be very hard to do since there is hatred and negative energy in everyone’s hearts, but it wouldn’t be a great thing to accomplish if it wasn’t hard. I yet to have the answer to spread the feeling of forgiveness, but I will keep trying to find a way.
