Driving in the United States is the of the main cause of death for people. Safety on roads needs to be prioritized as it will save the lives of many, even if it’s just general knowledge. The importance of driver education is key to all drivers as it teaches people how to drive responsibly and with caution of others. You will learn defensive driving techniques, manners on the road, and the importance of not driving distracted or under the influence. With more knowledge people will know the grave consequences they or someone else may face through the course of their actions.

I think a major step in driver safety is to promote safe driving and keeping your eyes on the road. More accidents come from texting and driving every year and people need to learn to drive responsibly, for their own well-being and those around them. Another factor would be driving under the influence. While drunk you drive faster as well as have little to no control over the wheel. Your vehicle becomes a weapon that you can’t control while under the influence. Another step someone should take is obeying all traffic laws thoroughly. Those laws, such as stoplight laws, speed limits, and road safety laws, are all put into place for your safety and you should obey them. Fewer accidents would happen if people stopped driving dangerous and obeyed the traffic laws.

Through my experiences I have seen people drive irresponsibly on the road. I myself have been ticketed for speeding when I was inexperienced which changed my outlook on obeying the speed limit. I have been in the car while a person was driving distracted as well as a person speeding however luckily, I have never been in an accident. I have seen accidents happen near and they all could’ve been avoided if the people involved were more self-aware of their actions.

You can become a better driver overall through mindfulness. Be mindful of those around you and how you proceed on the road. You may glance at your phone which causes you to swerve into the other lane, causing a head on collision. You may choose to drive under the influence which causes you to hit someone on your way home. You may run a stop sign which causes you to hit another car. All these factors and traffic laws should be considered when driving, which makes mindfulness of others and the road a key factor to road safety.
