Importance of driving etiquette
It almost happened during the summer in 2018. I and my family were driving back from the supermarket, as we have just finished our shopping trip. We came to stop at the T-section with traffic lights, and we patiently waited for traffic light to turn green for us and the traffic to be clear for us to take our left turn. My dad was driving and he drove out into the intersection when all was clear and the lights were green. Then suddenly from the right side of the T, a car ignored the traffic light and drove toward us with a speed apparently greater than the speed limit. I still remember at that moment, our car was just turning left and I heard a roaring motor sound coming up behind us, and we panicked. But luckily, my father did not panick. As soon as he heard and saw the car was speeding toward us, he step down on the gas as to get more distance away from the car behind us, and this action saved us from a potential crash.
In reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving, driver eduction can have multiple effects to not only reducing the fatality, but also on improving the current road situations in United States. On a simple level, driver education can allow people to focus in on details relating to driving that they may have ignored before. Ways to reduce or even eliminate the usage of phone while driving can help drivers to be more focused on the road, whereas better road etiquettes taught through driver education can not only provide a better condition when it comes to traffic comity, but also help in reinforcing a greener planet and recycling by not straight up throwing trash out of your car while driving.
Steps to be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are as the following:
-
It more laws regarding drinking while driving, road manners were passed, then it will be the strongest force to contribute in reducing the number of highway fatalities
-
An addtional test should be added on top of the writing and driving test, named the manner test, as to continue to instill the proper etiquettes related to driving
The steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver, as well as to help others become safer on the road are to tell them the personal experiences I have with driving, not only on the highway, or also in the city roads. What have become life-long lessons to me will hopefully provide to my friends the same thoughts and understandings in regard to driving. Furthermore, I have noticed that in my community, there have been volunteering programs about safe driving. If I ever get the chance to, I will ask my friends to participate in that program with me. For then, it will not only serve as a good time for us to associate socially, but also serve as a valuable memory that we can share and keep in mind, to the point that will help improve their driving etiquettes.
