Distractions on Our Road
Distractions on Our Roads
Every year, thousands of people are killed due to reckless driving that lead to car accidents. Many new drivers such as teens had the availability to take drivers education before getting their license; However many skip this crucial step due to procrastination and them not realizing how important this is. The failed result to this would be losing a loved one to an accident or possibly yourself.
I believe that distracted drivers are one of the main reasons that lead to deaths while driving. Whether this distraction is texting a friend back, snapping your location, or turning up to your playlist. I think that if we tried our hardest to ignore the distractions, teen drivers would be safer and deaths would decrease. I also feel that if drivers knew what could happen, many would be safer. Many drivers are misinformed of the consequences if they get distracted.
Many have not experienced any sort of car accident whether it was them or a loved one. My mother was in a car accident my 8th grade year due to a car swerving and hitting her on the freeway. The driver was around 17 years old and my mom’s car was destroyed. On my commencement, she was in very bad pain due to breaking around 3 ribs and having many bruises. The student was forced to take drivers education because it was revealed that they had not done so prior to the accident. I have also been involved in a car accident when I was around 5 years old that caused me to be in a full leg cast for a couple of months and made me start my education a year later. The driver was distracted and I believe that this injury could have been eliminated. Many people don’t care about getting into accidents because they believe this could never happen to them; However car accidents are very common and car accident related deaths are higher among new drivers.
Some steps I would take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others would be to know my surroundings and try my hardest to ignore my distractions. One would be my phone and I would make sure to not text and drive or reply to any snaps while driving. In areas where I’m not fully aware of my location, I would pay closer attention to other drivers and my driving to ensure that I dont cause any accidents. I would also try my hardest to not put myself in dangerous situations while driving to avoid any mistakes that can’t be taken back.
Every year, there are many deaths due to the failure of many not knowing or having driver education. With small steps taken to avoid distractions, many teen deaths would decrease and the road would be safer for all.
