Reducing Driving Accidents

Reducing Driving Accidents

Drivers education is vital when it comes to learning how to drive since as an adult you will be most likely doing a lot of it. Driving education can teach us how to avoid accidents that can easily be avoided with proper knowledge. If it were not for driving education the vehicle economy would not be as successful as it is right now. I feel as if driving education is taken form granted since a lot of people, sadly, think that they are complete experts at driving with only a few hours behind the wheel and this leads to pointless accidents. I have seen it myself. When I was taking my driving course I saw people not paying attention in class and either daydreaming or sleeping, causing them to miss out on important information. Driving courses need to be more strict to ensure that people are learning. Driving education can reduce those accidents by a huge margin.

In today’s society, the biggest concern with distracted driving is the phone. It is a fair concern since it is a huge cause of accidents. We see ads everywhere about not texting and driving and that’s it. There are no other ads when there are indeed other distractions. I think that in order for driving education to make a significant impact on reducing the death count in driving accidents, people need to be shown that there are other forms of distractions. Makeup, the radio, billboards, kids in the backseat, and many other distractions can cause an accident. The phone is not the only distraction that exists and I think it is important for people to know this. When I was in taking my driving course we had several people come in and talk to us about the people they lost because someone was texting and driving or the victim was texting and driving. That was the only distraction that they drilled into us but nothing else. If people are aware that there are other distractions, I feel that people will be a bit more vigilant on the road and take more caution.

I have seen people be distracted while driving. My mother as a matter of fact does it a lot. It gives me anxiety when she would drive and look at her phone to the point that I started to call her out on it to put it down and pay attention to the road. She does not do it so much but that is mainly because I drive my family around more than she does since I got my license. However, occasionally when she does drive and I am in the car she will still do it and I still call her out on it. Surprisingly she does not get mad at me and instead, she listens to me. I feel that even she knows it is wrong but just chooses to ignore the danger.

Sadly there is not much I can do. People have their own will and can choose to distract themselves or not. I can call out friends on it and family members as well but at the ned of the day it is their choice. What I can do is do my part and avoid distractions. As long as I am paying attention to the road and avoiding distractions I can ensure that I will not be the cause of any accidents.
