Drivers Education
I think Driver training classes are important in every young driver’s life. The school that taught my class was top notch! Larry made the class fun and interesting and I learned so much from this course. I had no idea that there was so much to learn before getting behind the wheel of a car. Throughout this paper, I will talk about the main topics that I learned and how they made me a better driver.
Most of us drive every single day, whether it’s to work, school, run errands, or just for pleasure. Every time you get behind the wheel of a vehicle you put yourself as well as others at risk. Driving on the roads anywhere can have fatal consequences if we are not wearing our seat belts, not being aware of the speed limits in different areas, our lack of attention to the road, whether that is who is in the car with us or distractions due to texting or trying to change the music on the radio. There is also one of the largest factors of fatal accidents which is the consumption of illegal substances such as drugs and alcohol. Drivers education classes are important for the prevention of serious car accidents and to help prevent future deaths on the road, in fact, the classes teach us how to properly wear our seat belts to prevent us from being injured in an accident. They also teach us the laws and rules to follow. Studies show that drivers between the ages of 16-18 are among those most likely to be involved in a car crash. Teens taking driver education classes are less likely to be involved in crashes or to receive a traffic violation during their first two years of driving due to the state-specific traffic laws that are taught to us during these classes.
Driver education classes have been proven to make a difference in teen traffic accidents because of the skills that are taught to them about the safe operation of a car and how to maneuver our way out of an accident. I believe there are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. One step would be to improve signing, these days there are a lot more people on the roads and they are driving places they have never been, so proper signing (street names, speed limits, etc.) is a good way to help with the distractions of looking at your phone or a map to try to find where you need to turn. Another way would be to raise the speed limit of safe roads to eliminate people using unmarked back roads. Having more turn lanes would be another way to help reduce the number of accidents due to people trying to make a left turn in front of oncoming traffic or rear-ended due to being stopped in the lane to make a left-hand turn. The list could go on and on, but I believe that by the state doing their part to maintain the roads and to redesign the bad roads and bad intersections this would help to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. It happens in seconds, its almost as if it happens in the blink of an eye. Accidents can happen in a matter of seconds, one day I experienced how fast they can happen, I was a passenger in my grandma’s car, we were stopped at an intersection. I remember sitting there waiting to move into the median. There was a car in the turning lane, my grandma pulled out and before you knew it a car struck the front side of her car. It gave me a jolt but I was unharmed as well as my grandma. The two cars were both damaged but all the passengers were fine. I have seen numerous of accidents on the news, in person, social media and more. Growing up I would always think, no, that couldn’t happen to me. But being on the roads in any vehicle puts you at risk. It is important to stay aware at all times and know that it can happen at any split second. Being in this car accident taught me just how fast an accident can happen. After being in that accident, it taught me to be very cautious of my driving, especially at intersections.
Thanks to driver education classes I learned how to keep myself and others safe on the roads, how to take extra precautions at intersections and crossroads, how to follow traffic laws and how I can make sure myself as well as my friends stay of their phones while driving. I also learned the importance of kids going to drivers training and taking all their behind the wheel sessions. By doing this it will help me maintain my safety as well as others.
