We all stand together
Statistics show that 1.35 million people die from a motor vehicle worldwide every year; this means that 3,700 families lose a member every day. When asked what the importance of driver education can do to reduce the number of deaths that come from driving I am immediately reminded of the parents who lose a child and the children who lose a parent. When drivers are not fully educated before they are given a set of keys they can become a danger to those on the rode around them. In drivers Ed, we are shown the aftermath of texting and driving or driving under the influence but we do not feel the pain that our recklessness causes. When we are in school, we are taught right from wrong, time management, and responsibility. In drivers Ed, we learn how to use our turn signals, what different traffic signs mean and the appropriate distance to stop. We are not taught the fear of being behind the wheel or the pain that can be caused by breaking the rules of the road.
In continuation, they prepare us for the distractions but we as teenagers are more likely to have to face the consequences before we understand the lesson. When we hear the stories for victims, who have lost a loved one it makes a greater impact than seeing a video because there is no connection but when we see the pain, it is as if all the lessons finally stick. When individuals are in driers Ed, I think it would have a greater impact to see and hear what reckless driving can do to an individual. The lesson that we learn and the stories that we hear are needed because they might just make people realize. Realize that there are other lives sharing the rode, people with son’s and daughter’s, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. 3,700 lives are ended to early every day, without the lesson that are taught that number will increase, but there has to be more that we can do.
Furthermore, I spoke about this generation but what about those before us; my mother’s cousin had to serve time because he did not take the lesson that where taught to heart. He was speeding with his friends in the car and lost control. He was badly injured but lived, his friends where not that lucky. My mom reminds me of this story to serve as a warning even after I completed driver’s Ed. My parents have been driving for a very long and yet they still face challenges that were not taught in drivers Ed. There have been lesson that the people around me have taught me that were not shown to me in driver’s Ed. If we want to lower the amount of lives lost we need to increase the amount of lessons taught. Then and only then will we parents stop having to bury their children because of a reckless driver.
Finally, it may be concluded, that the importance of driver education can help save a life and explain the consequences of a drivers actions. These lessons will stay with us even after we gain our learners permits and get behind the wheel for the first time. Not only will these lessons save the life of the victim but also the life of the driver, because once you take a life there is no coming back from that. This is why we need driver’s Ed to save us from the nightmares of getting behind the wheel but also the horrors of knowing you have taken a child from their parents, or a parent from their child.
