The Importance of Education in Driving

Driving is one of the most dangerous activities we do on a daily basis. Every year, thousands of people die from driving related accidents. Drivers today need to be more alert and educated than ever before. Driver education is a key part to the driving experience. If one goes to drive without any prior knowledge of the roads, the car, or themself, there is a good chance a bad accident will happen. Educating drivers allows them to be prepared for any challenges they might face on the road. If drivers are more prepared, there will be less accidents and less deaths.

Paying attention on the road is vital for any driver to be safe. Always looking forward and being prepared for any scenario are the best ways to pay attention. One way to be prepared is to watch the news or listen to the radio to see if there are any traffic jams on your route. Avoiding alcohol and drugs is also a huge step. However, the most important step to driving, especially for drivers in training, is to be confident in oneself and one’s abilities. The only thing a driver can control is themself and their car. If a driver cannot control themself, they should re-evaluate before driving again.

I have not personally been in an accident, but one of my lifelong friends has. He stopped paying attention for one second and it caused him to total his car. His act was reckless and unfortunate. This experience is just one example of how one simple mistake on the road can cost a lot of money or more.

Although I would say I am a fairly safe driver, there are always things I can improve on. I can certainly practice what I preach and pay more attention to the road, especially at night. I could also speed a lot less than I do now. We are all guilty of speeding, but I seem to do it excessively. If I speed less, I am keeping more lives safe. I know I can’t control other people, but if my actions become safer, then my lives and others will be safer too.
