Your Last Ride

Your Last Ride

By: Carolina Deras Herrera

Your life is a gift, and you should treat it as such. Everyday you get to be on this earth, you should live it like it’s your last; the end will come at a time and place that is out of your control. On the other hand, what is in your control in how you choose to navigate life. Several people have lost their lives due to driving, which is why it is so important to be educated in both driving knowledge and skill. Being knowledgeable about driving not only reduces the risk of you getting in an accident, but it protects others who may come in contact with an uneducated driver and risk getting in an accident too. Everyone gets in their car in hope to reach their destination, without realizing the things that could occur on the way; we can only hope that those who get on the road too are driving in an adequate manner. If everyone acts unselfishly and responsibly on the road by being aware of their surroundings and driving correctly, we could reduce the deaths that occur while driving. Have you ever seen someone drive irresponsibly? That feeling of fear and anguish. How you see it happening and you can’t do anything about it. Personally, I have seen at first hand someone get into the driver’s seat when they shouldn’t, luckily it didn’t end in an unfortunate circumstance, but it could have, and just that thought of “what could’ve happened” is enough for me to want to be an educated driver, and it should be for everyone; we never truly know what might happen. We make a plan and God, the universe, whatever you believe in, has a different one. It’s an eye opening moment when you realize that your life’s on the line every time you step into your car and head out. It’s an eye opening moment when you realize that the lives of the passengers are on the line, and that they depend on the driver to successfully drive them from point A to B. It’s an eye opening moment when you realize that others don’t think the same as you. A step that we can all take as a community is driving considerately, unselfishly, and according to law. It is a civil duty to drive in a way that will keep you and everyone else on the road safe. Things that promote a safe driver include avoiding texting, drinking, and performing shenanigans while driving. Always, always remember that you are in control behind the wheel, that the machine acts the way you tell it to. Let this be a reminder of the many reasons why you should spread awareness of safe driving and how you should keep in mind those reasons everytime you get behind the wheel. There’s only one destination that is certain, don’t let driving be the reason you leave early, drive safe, you wouldn’t want it being your last ride.
