Rules of the Road
As a newer driver, I find it very important to always be as safe as possible. Driving is a new and exciting privilege that is not worth losing over making immature decisions. Effective Driver’s Education is pivotal in providing teens with the knowledge necessary to understand the rules of the road. If taught properly, we have the ability to make the roads a safer place to be. I think that educating future drivers is very important in reducing the amount of deaths and serious injuries caused by car accidents.
The most important thing when driving, or being the passenger in a vehicle, is to remember your seatbelt. Although accidents are not prevented by buckling up, wearing a seatbelt can protect the passengers and driver from suffering the worst possible consequences of being involved in a crash. Another important step in reducing risks on the road is to ensure that parents are instructing their teenagers properly. Risky behavior and small bad habits should not be passed down, and instead be eradicated to prevent an accident. Be strict with the instruction of driving, because once you are behind the wheel of a car, you are no longer the only one whose life is at stake.
Fortunately, I have never experienced a major accident myself, but I have seen irresponsible driving. At a young age, wearing a seatbelt was never enforced while in the car with certain family members. Now at 17. I understand that even on the shortest journeys, fastening your seatbelt is a must-do safety precaution. Making sure you are properly educated regarding the rules of the road can help you to feel much more at ease behind the wheel. Also, make sure to get supervised practice in many different scenarios such as: rain, snow, darkness, fog, and busy traffic, so that you are never taken by surprise. Personally, my motto for when I drive is “Always prepare for someone else’s stupidity.” Not that I am calling anyone stupid, but simply saying that you should never let your guard down on the road because you never know when someone else will. In these times of continued industrialization, as cars continue to become even more popular, it is extremely important to do your part to keep travelers, including yourself safe.
