In the driver´s seat

Getting behind the wheel is an immense responsibility, one slight move can affect a person’s life. People need to learn that driving laws are created for a reason so that people are safe while being on the road. Driver education teaches what to do in certain situations, the meaning of signals, how to be responsible, etc. If no one was educated on driving, the roads would be extremely dangerous. By having a driver not aware of driving rules, it can occasionally lead up to car accidents that can cause deaths.

Numerous steps can be taken to reduce the deaths related to driving. Keeping your eyes on the road. Looking at anything else around you for less than a second can cause a loss of train of thought. The importance of using turn signals and brakes. There have been many accidents that have been caused by miscommunication. By using signals, a driver is inducting their next move so the person behind can slow down. Operating brakes indicate to slow down and will inform the other drivers to do the same. Lowering the increase in the chances of speeding. When a car is at speed, this is extremely risky for numerous reasons. Mostly it can hit another vehicle oncoming, and it will be too late to even brake. One of the most critical things is to set your phone away. So many people nowadays cannot take an ordinary drive without being distracted by their phones.

I have been fortunate enough to have never been in a car accident, but I have witnessed my family member driving irresponsibly. It was a showery and breezy day. My family and I were on our way to Maryland for a party. My aunt was driving so recklessly, I was honestly terrified for my life. Constantly changing lanes, cutting cars off, speeding up. That day I was sitting between my cousin and my mom. Regardless of me wearing a seatbelt, every time, my aunt would step on the brakes I felt like I was going to fly out of the car. With the weather already being bad, traffic, and reckless driving, I was scared for my life. She was not having patience with people, and that is a dangerous thing. I am not quite sure how we did not end up crashing that same night but I thank god we are still alive. After that day, I have avoided riding in the car with her as a driver. It only requires a split second to cause an accident that can affect the rest of your life.

A very fundamental step that you can take to be a better and safer driver is to use signals. These incidents to the people surrounding you, what your further step will be. For example, if you want to get switch lanes. Turning on your signals will indicate to the other drivers you are wanting to pass. By doing this, it will allow a smoother transaction of lanes without any incidents occurring.
